Product Technology M&A Director

As a Product Technology Director, you’ll focus on evaluating software platforms through an integrated commercial, operational, and financial lens. The team provides investment-grade insights that tie product architecture and roadmap credibility directly to valuation, growth, and margin sustainability. Lead Product Technology Diligence engagements for Private Equity and strategic clients, assessing software platforms across technical architecture, product strategy, operational scalability, and financial sustainability. This role requires the ability to tie commercial, operational, and financial performance of a software platform directly to its technology architecture and roadmap.From day one, you’ll be empowered to help clients make the moves that will help them achieve their vision and help you achieve more, confidently. Your day-to-day may include:Lead buy-side and sell-side Product Technology Diligence engagementsAssess product architecture, scalability, security, and extensibilityEvaluate roadmap credibility against commercial growth thesisAnalyze technical debt and modernization requirementsEvaluate AI and data platform maturityAssess DevOps, SDLC maturity, and engineering productivityTie product roadmap to ARR growth, NRR expansion, pricing power, and customer acquisition efficiencyAssess technical enablers and constraints impacting margin structure and hosting costsEvaluate engineering cost base and R&D investment requirementsDevelop forward-looking capital investment views and EBITDA impact assessmentsSupport valuation narratives based on platform strength and scalabilityEvaluate engineering organization structure and scalabilityAssess product management maturity and governanceAnalyze release cadence and roadmap execution riskIdentify talent gaps and key person dependenciesLead management interviews (CTO, CPO, Engineering Leads)Develop executive-ready reports with investment implicationsPresent findings to PE deal teams and portfolio leadershipMentor Managers and Senior ConsultantsSupport proposal development and commercial structuringYou have the following technical skills and qualifications:Bachelor’s degree required10+ years in product architecture leadership, product tech diligence, CTO advisory, or software platform strategyExperience in PE-backed or high-growth SaaS environmentsDeep understanding of SaaS business models, cloud-native architectures, data platforms, and DevOpsExperience tying technology findings to commercial and financial outcomesExecutive presenceStrong commercial acumenAbility to translate architecture into valuation impactStructured and hypothesis-driven thinkerAbility to operate in deal timelinesAbility to travel up to 50%The base salary range for this position is between $239,160 and $309,412. Placement within the pay range is at Grant Thornton’s discretion, and it is based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, job -related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, progression within the role, geographic location, and internal equity.
