Temporary Research Assistant

Responsibilities Operates and maintains GC‑MS, GC, anaerobic chambers, biosafety cabinets, flow cytometer, plate readers, spectrophotometers, and other laboratory equipment as needed. Performs cultivation of archaea/bacteria and develops customized biological and chemical assays. Performs technical laboratory procedures that include gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, PCR, DNA/RNA and protein extraction, and gel electrophoresis. Maintains laboratory notebooks, records, and analyzes experimental data. Develops and validates new procedures or follows established procedures and records results. Assists in the preparation of laboratory reports and manuscripts. Assists in training users of shared laboratory equipment. Helps with laboratory management. Work Schedule 20-30 hours per week between Monday‑Friday. Minimum Experience & Education Relevant Master’s degree or Relevant Bachelor’s degree plus 3 or more years of relevant experience, or relevant independent experience and education. Required Skills Experience working in a higher‑education research laboratory environment. 5 years of laboratory experience. Preferred Experience Experience supporting microbial, molecular biology, or related biological research programs. Experience with laboratory organization, sample processing, data collection, and research support activities. Experience working in Plant and Microbial Biology or a comparable academic research environment. Required License or Certification Valid driver’s license. Compensation Hourly rate: $28.48.
