Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

Role Overview The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides therapy services to patients of all ages, supporting the delivery of professional care and serving as a clinical resource for staff and students. Responsibilities Follow and adapt the therapist’s plan of care based on patient response, communicating with the evaluating therapist and documenting updates. Implement patient-centered, occupation-based interventions tailored to physical, cognitive, and emotional needs. Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare teams throughout the therapy process. Educate patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers using effective teaching methods. Produce accurate, professional documentation supporting clinical decisions and treatment progress. Participate in quality improvement activities and communicate effectively with team members and patients. Perform treatment interventions, including range of motion assessments and ADL training, and communicate progress to referring providers. Qualifications & Skills Certifications: NBCOT Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, BLS within 30 days. Education: Associate’s Degree in Occupational Therapy Assistance.
