Claims Adjuster II, Field Property - National Catastrophe

Overview Nationwide’s Property and Casualty team is seeking a National Catastrophe Field Claims Specialist to support the personal lines business. The role is field‑based, requiring up to 80% travel to disaster zones to evaluate and resolve moderate to severe property damage claims. The position requires high emotional resilience, strong communication, and technical property claims experience. Key Responsibilities Deploy to catastrophic events across the country to conduct on‑site inspections, evaluate property damage, and determine policy coverage. Make timely, accurate file decisions, maintain appropriate reserves, and manage claim activity, including supplements, depreciation requests, and claim closings. Maintain full file ownership, ensuring compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements. Communicate proactively with external customers, providing status updates and delivering difficult news with empathy. Collaborate with Special Investigations, Subrogation, and other internal teams to identify fraud and recovery opportunities. Use Xactimate and other estimating tools to produce estimates and manage claim operations. Attend required training and maintain knowledge of industry repair practices, regional pricing trends, and legal developments. Qualifications Three to five years of related property claims experience or comparable experience. Prior experience adjusting or handling field/property claims and working in a catastrophe environment. Proficiency with Xactimate; Xactimate Level 1 certification within the first year, Level 2 within two years. Strong customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to travel irregularly, work extended hours (12hrs/day, up to 21days in a row), and safely inspect rooftops/shading using ladders. Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record. State licensing where required and successful completion of required claims certification courses. Additional Requirements Must be able to climb ladders and inspect roofs with pitches up to 8/12. Must maintain professional conduct, meet orientation training and safety standards. Must be able to work in high‑pressure, fast‑paced environments for extended periods.
