Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Labor & Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Advanced EFM Must-Have: Cerner experience required Description: Candidates must complete all required modules prior to arrival. Failure to complete modules will result in a delayed start. Pre-screening of all candidates will be conducted. The unit handles approximately 300 deliveries a month. The facility includes 2 OB ED beds, 4 antepartum rooms, 9 labor rooms, and 2 ORs. Ratios follow state and AWHONN guidelines. The electronic medical record system is Cerner with fetal link and hugs security system. Charge nurses generally do not take patients, and a resource nurse is available. OB techs assist in scrubbing C-sections, with 2 techs per shift. Weekend work is required every other weekend, and may include additional rotations. Two out of three major holidays will require work. There is no call requirement. Scrub color is provided by the facility. Vents are available for moms and babies; however, transfers to a higher level of care are necessary if needed. Laborist and anesthesia services are in-house 24/7. A strong IV skill set is required. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24/7. Shifts are scheduled for 7 AM and 7 PM. Floating may occur to postpartum and NICU as needed. Floor specific orientation consists of two shifts. Common patient diagnoses include high-risk OB with multiple comorbidities and multiple births. No neonatal surgeries are performed in this facility. The unit is baby-friendly, emphasizing the importance of skin-to-skin contact during the first hour. A NICU nurse will attend all high-risk deliveries with a respiratory therapist. Familiarity with documentation and care for perinatal initiatives is required. The facility has a significant volume of surrogates and multiples. The hospital may cancel up to four shifts during the 13-week assignment.
