In-House Intellectual Property (IP/tech) And Technology Attorney

MUST BE LOCATED IN NYC AND WILLING TO GO INTO THE OFFICE 3 DAYS A WEEK

OVERVIEW:

The D.E.Shaw group seeks a talented attorney specializing in intellectual property and technology transactions to join its Legal & Compliance team. This individual will become part of a small, highly skilled team responsible for a wide range of commercial contracts.

WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:

• Draft, review, and negotiate data and software license agreements.
• Handle various technology, purchase, service, and consulting agreements.
• Advise financial and technology-oriented businesses within the firm on intellectual property matters and related legal issues.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• A law degree, an impressive record of academic achievement, and at least four years of experience in-house and/or at a law firm; more senior candidates, including those with 15+ years of experience, are also encouraged to apply.
• Experience reviewing and negotiating licensing, technology, and other commercial contracts, as well as advising clients on intellectual property issues and contract interpretation.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent analytical abilities, sound judgment, keen attention to detail, an impressive work ethic, and proven drafting, communication, and organizational skills.
• Familiarity with commercial software and financial and/or market data licenses is preferred; experience with issues relating to open source software and/or generative artificial intelligence is a plus, but not required.
• The expected annual base salary for this position is $250,000 to $325,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
