Intern - Construction Field Inspection

Join us at the intersection of INGENUITY & INCLUSION Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (I E I) is looking to hire an Intern – Construction Field Inspection for the 2026 Summer Internship Program. We are a leading civil engineering firm known for quality, responsiveness and a proven track record as a prime civil engineering firm. As an Intern, you will participate in an eight‑week rotation program working between field inspection, office engineering and administrative coordination under the supervision of senior professionals. You will gain hands‑on experience on real projects and learn from senior staff. What You'll Do Work full time, Monday‑Friday, for all eight weeks (June 15 – August 7, 2026). Be available to work five days onsite. Under the supervision of senior construction staff, review existing drawings and site conditions. Attend design staff meetings and create basic Excel tables. Organize and file project documents and transfer markups to Adobe PDF. Assist project managers, rail coordinators and project engineers in reviewing complaints and resolving problems. Visit project sites with senior staff, compile data and help convert the data into plans. Learn to estimate material costs and interpret technical documents. Develop an understanding of engineering standards and applicable state and local regulations. Gain exposure to both field and office knowledge. To Be Successful Actively enrolled in an accredited civil engineering or construction management undergraduate program. Authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship for the internship or future employment. Demonstrated interest in infrastructure and desire to advance skills related to IEI’s work. Strong verbal and written communication skills with proper spelling, grammar and punctuation. Self‑starter, reliable, motivated, inquisitive and able to work independently. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with project managers, engineers and other staff. Leadership skills and initiative. Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), MS Teams and internet navigation. Learning Objectives Develop basic competency and awareness of industry standards. Acquire real‑world written and verbal communication skills. Understand the structure of weekly meetings. Recognize client expectations and needs. Preferred Qualifications Good problem‑solving and analytical ability. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Prior internship experience and leadership involvement on campus. Physical Demands The role requires frequent sitting, talking, hearing, standing, walking, using hands to handle tools, reaching, and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Work Environment The work environment includes an office setting and occasional outdoor visits to project sites in varying weather conditions. It may involve uneven ground, loud construction equipment, and requires wearing PPE while onsite.
