The Arc of Ocean County is looking for a Community Janitorial Crew Chief to lead community-based cleaning crews while supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they gain valuable employment experience.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who knows commercial cleaning and enjoys working with people. You'll work alongside your crew at customer locations throughout Ocean County, teaching job tasks, maintaining quality standards, promoting safe work practices, and helping crew members build the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the workplace.

Position Details

Location: Lakewood, New Jersey
Department: Vocational
Employment Type: Full-Time, transitioning to Part-Time at the end of October
Pay: $22.25 per hour
Pay Schedule: Bi-Weekly
Schedule: Flexible based on program and contract needs
Availability: Evening and weekend availability required
Weekend Requirement: Must be available to work at least one weekend shift each week
Training: Paid training provided

What You'll Do

Lead & Coach Your Crew

• Lead and mentor individuals participating in The Arc's Community Janitorial Services program.
• Teach cleaning tasks through hands-on instruction and demonstration.
• Break down job responsibilities into clear, manageable steps based on individual abilities.
• Provide encouragement, constructive feedback, and coaching to help crew members improve their workplace skills.
• Promote accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and independence.
• Help individuals develop transferable employment skills that can support future opportunities.

Put Your Commercial Cleaning Skills to Work

• Work alongside crew members to complete commercial cleaning assignments at contracted locations throughout Ocean County.
• Organize daily assignments and work activities to promote efficient, high-quality service.
• Perform and teach appropriate commercial cleaning techniques.
• Complete floor care procedures, including stripping, waxing, and maintaining large floor surfaces .
• Inspect completed work and identify areas requiring additional attention.
• Reinforce customer expectations and established quality standards.

Keep the Crew Safe & Professional

• Promote safe work practices and reinforce agency and workplace safety requirements.
• Safely transport crew members between job sites using agency vehicles.
• Maintain a professional presence at customer locations and represent The Arc of Ocean County positively.
• Communicate operational concerns, customer feedback, and other relevant information to program leadership.
• Respond appropriately to unexpected situations that arise during the workday.

Support Employment & Skill Development

• Observe individual performance and identify opportunities for additional instruction or support.
• Encourage crew members to take increasing responsibility for their work.
• Help individuals practice communication, teamwork, punctuality, workplace behavior, and other employment skills.
• Complete documentation related to daily activities, participant progress, and program operations.
• Contribute to a work environment where individuals can gain meaningful experience and build confidence.

You'll use your knowledge of commercial cleaning to get the job done while also teaching others how to perform that work successfully. Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age .
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid New Jersey driver's license in good standing with no more than five (5) motor vehicle points .
• Ability to safely operate a 10–12 passenger vehicle .
• Minimum of two (2) years of janitorial, custodial, or commercial cleaning experience required.
• Experience performing floor care procedures, including stripping, waxing, and maintaining large floor surfaces , required.
• Must successfully complete all required state and federal background screenings and hiring requirements.

Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is welcomed but not required.
