Facilities Engineer

Location: Onsite, Columbus OH or Detroit MI

Travel: Approximately 25%

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Facilities Engineer to support engineering and facilities programs within the defense and aerospace sectors.

The role will provide technical expertise, contractor oversight, and data-driven guidance across facility operations, infrastructure, and real property management programs. The successful candidate will bring strong engineering judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage technical activities within complex, regulated environments.

This position is well suited to an engineer with a combination of hands-on facilities knowledge, project and contractor oversight experience, and the ability to work effectively with technical and operational stakeholders.

Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Advisory & Stakeholder Engagement

• Provide engineering expertise to support improvements in facility operations, maintenance programs, and real property management.

• Develop technical recommendations supporting manufacturing optimization, cost reduction, operational efficiency, and facility performance.

• Participate in program reviews, technical discussions, and stakeholder meetings.

• Prepare and present clear engineering reports, assessments, recommendations, and presentations.

Contract Oversight & Program Management

• Act as an owner's representative for facility-related programs, overseeing contractor-executed planning, development, maintenance, and property disposition activities.

• Evaluate contractor performance against cost, schedule, quality, and compliance requirements.

• Apply project management principles to plan, coordinate, and execute facility-related projects.

• Review and verify contractor deliverables, including reports, inspections, engineering findings, and operational data.

Real Property & Regulatory Compliance

• Apply knowledge of federal, state, and local real property policies, regulations, and requirements.

• Support negotiations with private landowners and governmental entities involving easements, rights-of-way, licenses, leases, and permits.

• Ensure real property activities meet applicable regulatory and documentation requirements.

Facilities Operations, Engineering & Risk Management

• Conduct facility inspections, engineering analyses, and operational studies to evaluate equipment, infrastructure performance, and system efficiency.

• Collect and analyze operational data and samples, perform engineering calculations, and support root-cause analysis.

• Identify operational risks, deficiencies, and performance issues and recommend appropriate corrective or preventive actions.

• Prepare comprehensive engineering reports documenting findings and opportunities for improvement.

Program Coordination & Continuous Improvement

• Coordinate with technical teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to support effective program execution.

• Interpret policies, technical standards, and engineering guidance to resolve issues and maintain efficient facility operations.

• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing costs, increasing throughput, and improving overall facility performance.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder required due to the nature of work performed within the defense and aerospace sectors.

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.

• Experience in engineering consulting, facilities engineering, or a client-facing technical environment.

• Previous experience serving as a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) or providing contractor oversight is highly desirable.

• Strong understanding of real property regulations, easements, permitting, rights-of-way, and land-use agreements.

• Ability to perform facility inspections, engineering analyses, and risk assessments.

• Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, production, or complex facilities environments is preferred.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Ability to travel approximately 25% as required.
