Energy Regulatory Associate Attorney Locations: Austin, Texas; Boston, Massachusetts; Denver, Colorado; Los Angeles, California; New York, New York; Palo Alto, California; San Diego, California; San Francisco, California; Seattle, Washington; Washington, DC Direct Counsel is seeking an Energy Regulatory Associate to join a premier global law firm with a sophisticated and rapidly growing energy and infrastructure practice. This is an exciting opportunity for an associate with experience in energy regulatory law, power markets, and digital infrastructure matters to work on cutting-edge projects at the intersection of energy, technology, and large-scale infrastructure development. The ideal candidate will have experience advising energy market participants, data center developers, hyperscalers, and other large energy users on complex regulatory, transactional, and infrastructure matters.

Responsibilities
- Advise clients on energy regulatory and power market matters
- Counsel clients on issues involving:
- Energy infrastructure transactions
- Large-scale energy procurement
- Digital infrastructure and data center development
- Co-located generation projects
- Support regulatory proceedings before:
- The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
- State public utility commissions
- Appellate courts
- Draft and negotiate transaction-related agreements and regulatory filings
- Conduct legal and regulatory analysis regarding evolving energy market frameworks
- Advise clients on strategic and operational risks related to energy and infrastructure projects
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on sophisticated transactional and regulatory matters
- Maintain strong client relationships and provide practical, business-oriented legal advice
- J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
- 3-6+ years of significant law firm experience in:
- Energy regulatory law
- Power markets
- Infrastructure transactions
- Related energy matters
- Experience advising data center developers, hyperscalers, or large energy users preferred
- Familiarity with digital infrastructure, co-located generation, or large-scale energy procurement matters preferred
- Experience with FERC or state public utility commission proceedings is a plus
- Strong analytical, drafting, and communication skills
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong business judgment and client management abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and sophisticated practice environment
- Commitment to exceptional client service and professional excellence
- Salary range: $260,000 - $390,000, depending on experience and qualifications
