Tax Controversy Associate
New York, NY | Philadelphia, PA | Washington, DC | 3–5 Years Experience
Direct Counsel represents a leading national law firm seeking an experienced Tax Controversy Associate to join its Taxation & Wealth Planning practice.
This is an excellent opportunity for a tax attorney with strong controversy and litigation experience to work on sophisticated matters involving audits, appeals, tax litigation, and disputes with federal and state taxing authorities.
The Role- Represent clients in tax controversy matters, audits, and administrative appeals .
- Handle tax litigation and related court proceedings.
- Conduct sophisticated legal research and draft briefs, pleadings, memoranda, and other tax controversy documents.
- Work on matters involving the U.S. Tax Court, IRS, and other tax authorities .
- Manage multiple matters simultaneously while meeting critical deadlines.
- Communicate directly with clients and attorneys regarding strategy and case developments.
- Develop practical strategies for resolving complex tax disputes.
- 3–5 years of relevant tax controversy experience .
- J.D. and LL.M. in Taxation required.
- Experience with tax audits, appeals, and litigation required.
- Tax Court clerkship, IRS Counsel, or DOJ Tax Division/Tax Branch experience required.
- Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
- Strong academic credentials.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
- Strong client-service skills and attention to detail.
- Active Bar admission in the state where the attorney will practice required.
- $230,000–$250,000 annual salary in New York and Washington, DC, depending on experience and qualifications.
