Job TitleMaintenance Specialist IIJob DescriptionField Operations assignment will interpret distribution and collection system maps to locate sewer lines, water lines, valves and hydrants, and pump and lift stations. Work may include the operation of the following: wash unit, large dump truck, hydro-vac, tapping machines, water cutter, mini-dump truck and/or TV truck. Reads basic schematic drawings. Vacuums and washes mains. Inspects and performs flow/pressure tests on fire hydrants. Troubleshoots and performs quality checks for finished work. Completes work orders and basic forms. Requisitions parts and supplies. Interacts with customers. May exercise some supervisory functions. Performance of preventive and corrective maintenance on water meters and meter boxes. Work may include installation, exchange, reading, and/or repairing transmitters on water meters using hand held reading processors and updating work orders using laptop workbooks. May be required to read meters using a hand held processor. May oversee the flushing and sampling of source water and potable water for compliance monitoring or customer complaints; performs field water analysis as needed, performs customer relations and notification site visits.All Maintenance Specialist II's will be able to perform any task required of a Maintenance Specialist I employee and may be called upon to do so as required.Maintains job safety standards (personal protection equipment, etc.); complies with City of Shreveport vehicle safety rules; trains new team members on safe work practices. Regularly attends required safety, job related and certification training classes as required. Subject to be on call 24/7.Performs other duties as assigned or required.Minimum Qualifications1) High School Diploma or GED. 2) Valid State Vehicle Operator's License with class applicable to assigned position. 3) Three years' experience as a Maintenance Specialist I or related field 4) Field Operations assignment - Hold or be able to obtain Class 2 Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Certificates issued by the State of Louisiana, Dept. of Health and Hospitals within 3 years.Physical Requirements: Position may require moderate to extensive stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions, along with some combination of climbing and balancing; may be subject to sitting for prolonged periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Position requires abilities to consistently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.Work Environment: Work is performed outdoors with exposure to noise, dirt, grease, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, fumes, animals, insects, chemicals, treated/untreated sewer, treated/untreated water, inclement weather, and machinery with moving parts requiring use of protective devices.BenefitsThe City of Shreveport offers many benefits including vacation and sick leave, health, dental and vision insurance, 10 paid holidays per calendar year and long term disability.
