Athletic Trainer Supplemental Position - High School

Athletic Trainer - Fort Mill High Schools (Supplemental Position) Job Summary: The outreach athletic trainer is responsible for day‑to‑day medical coverage in the high school outreach setting. Uses preventative measures, provides standard immediate care procedures, clinical evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning. Employs assessment outcome measures to determine effectiveness of the outreach program, determines return to play for athletes and active population, manages head injuries and concussions, and works under supervision of a directing physician while collaborating with the Sports Medicine Team. Education / Experience Master's degree in athletic training from a CAATE program. Experience as a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer preferred; must work independently. Licensure, Certification, and Registration Current athletic training certification by BOC. Eligible for South Carolina License within 30 days of hire. Must complete American Heart Association BLS (CPR and AED) within 30 days. Essential Functions Provide athletic training services to high schools and community sporting events as needed. Assist with event coverage within Sports Medicine Team. Provide acute medical care to athletes on the field during practices or games. Provide clinical services in local orthopedic clinics when necessary. Recognize, evaluate, and provide immediate care for illness and injury including emergencies. Perform injury evaluation, assess function, and follow standardized clinical practice. Determine therapeutic treatment, provide rehabilitation, taping, wrapping, and bracing. Implement program objectives and assess effectiveness. Collaborate with directing physician, recommend discontinuation when appropriate. Determine return to play standards for injuries. Maintain daily records of treatment logs, injury reports, referrals, and inventory. Set up medical supplies and equipment for practice and games. Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing departmental policies. Ensure an Emergency Action Plan for each venue. Assist in preparation of lectures, programs, seminars, and present as needed. Mentor and manage on‑site education of students and other healthcare professionals. Ensure training room sites have appropriate supplies and recommend new equipment. Develop physician referral network and facilitate referrals. Maintain training on concussion education, management, and care. Adhere to departmental dress code. Perform other related clinical duties as required. Additional duties as assigned. Skills / Qualifications Excellent leadership, decision‑making, problem‑solving, and conflict resolution. Ability to work independently and confidently with minimal supervision. Effective communication with coaches, physicians, staff, families, and community partners. Confidentiality (FERPA/HIPAA) compliance. Ability to understand and communicate medical terminology with patients, parents, and others. Works within Sports Medicine Team concept and accepts assignments based on needs. Maintains competencies required for position and specific area. Works well with diverse ages, races, classes, and genders. Identifies social work resources for uninsured or underinsured athletes. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Work Environment Hours may vary; night and weekend work required. Works at high school training rooms and may be exposed to infections or emergency situations.
