FTE: 0.75 (Approximately 30 Hours/week)

TS Range: 5A ($21.79)

SUMMARY: The Kitchen Facilities Assistant supports the safe and organized operation of the Community Kitchen and adjacent facility spaces. This position ensures the kitchen is properly prepared, maintained, and secured for evening and weekend reservations. Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, organization, food safety, and equipment care is required. Additionally, this position supports meal service for After School and Summer Recreation programs. This position will work with youth on a regular basis. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Kitchen Operations & Event Support (30%)

• Ensure the Community Kitchen is available, functional, and properly closed for reservations.
• Prepare kitchen spaces for evening and weekend facility rentals, events, and programs.
• Assess kitchen readiness prior to events, ensuring supplies, equipment, and work areas meet operational standards.
• Complete kitchen closing procedures following events, including cleaning, securing equipment, and locking facilities as required.
• Provide on-call operational support during designated events when needed.
• Monitor kitchen conditions and communicate maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
• Support event staff, volunteers, and facility users in proper kitchen use and procedures.

Kitchen Cleaning & Sanitation (25%)

• Maintain a clean, safe, and health-compliant kitchen environment.
• Perform routine and deep cleaning of kitchen equipment, work surfaces, storage areas, and appliances.
• Follow food safety and sanitation standards.
• Maintain cleanliness of refrigerators, freezers, pantry areas, and food preparation spaces.

Inventory, Organization & Equipment Management (20%)

• Maintain organized storage systems and ensure kitchen resources are accessible and well maintained.
• Organize and maintain pantry, dry storage, refrigeration, and supply areas. Monitor inventory levels and communicate restocking needs.
• Support periodic inventory counts and equipment audits.

Youth Meal Support (25%)

• Support meal service operations during Youth programming. Mentor youth and support their growth in Tu Ha’ Buts Youth Center activities. 
• Assist with meal preparation, setup, serving, and cleanup activities.
• Maintain required documentation and food handling procedures.
• Support food distribution in compliance with program and grant requirements.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : There are no supervisory responsibilities with this position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma and GED with two years of pertinent work experience OR four years of relevant experience. Must have experience working in a food services facility and some inventory record keeping experience. The ideal candidate will have experience working in food service, commercial kitchens, custodial services, or related environments. Experience cooking for and serving large groups of people is preferred but not required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have and maintain a valid Food Handler’s Permit and First Aid Certificate or obtain one within 30 days of hire.
