In this role, you will build and scale the next generation of underwriting platform for all business lines in GEICO and revamp existing tier-1 underwriting services.You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization by designing, developing, and deploying core consumer experiences that leverage AI, ensuring they are robust, scalable and production ready.The Service Underwriting Engineering team partners closely with GEICO's underwriting operations team to design, build, and enhance applications that streamline underwriting processes and improve decision-making efficiency. The team develops scalable, reliable solutions that enable underwriters to work smarter, faster, and with accuracy, and aim to replace repetitive manual work with AI and automation.Position ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Software Engineer, you will:Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systemsEngage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycleParticipate in design sessions and code reviews with peers to elevate the quality of engineering across the organizationUtilize programming languages like C#, Java or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and servicesConsistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teamsBuild product definition and leverage your technical skills to drive towards the right solutionAnalysis and Estimation skillsQualificationsProgramming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C# or other object-oriented languagesExperience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systemsIn-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithmsUnderstanding of service-oriented architecture and extensible REST/ gRPC APIsUnderstanding of monitoring toolsKnowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)Understanding in DevOps Concepts, Cloud Architecture, and Azure DevOps Operational FrameworkExperience with Enterprise level design documentationExperience with Database TechnologiesExperience with deployment steps and general CM functionsStrong problem-solving abilityStrong oral and written communication skillsAbility to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environmentExperience5+ years of professional experience in software engineering4+ years of experience with security, identity, architecture, and design2+ years of experience with open-source frameworks is desired2+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service providerEducationBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experienceThis is a Hybrid role based out of any of the following offices:Bellevue, WARichardson, TXBethesda, MDAnnual Salary: $100,000.00 - $215,000.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate.
