Job Description

As a Manufacturing Technician in a fabrication shop environment, you operate industrial machinery and tools to cut, measure, and assemble materials for plumbing, piping, and sheet metal projects. You work with hand and power tools, saws, and other equipment while accurately reading tape measures and using iPads and computers to document your work. This role may involve supporting the movement and positioning of heavy components with forklifts, hoists, or cranes, and requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Operate machinery and equipment in the fabrication shop, including saws and other industrial machines, to cut and process materials according to project specifications.
• Measure and cut material as needed, using tape measures and other measuring tools to ensure accurate dimensions and quality workmanship.
• Use hand and power tools safely and effectively for fabrication, assembly, and finishing tasks related to plumbing, piping, and sheet metal work.
• Document completed tasks using iPads and computers, accurately tracking work performed and following established shop procedures and workflows.
• Work in the plumbing/piping and sheet metal departments as assigned, contributing to fabrication work in a shop setting rather than on a jobsite.
• Lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds as part of daily fabrication and material handling duties.
• Follow all safety protocols, including wearing steel-toe footwear and using tools and equipment in accordance with safety standards.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, assisting with general shop tasks such as sweeping or basic maintenance when needed.
• Demonstrate strong work ethic by reliably coming to work, being willing to learn, and contributing to a positive, long-term team culture.
• Be open to overtime and flexible start times to meet production demands, including occasional Saturday work when required.

Essential Skills

• Experience working in an industrial or construction environment.
• Comfort and proficiency working with hand tools in a fabrication setting.
• Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately for fabrication work.
• Experience with hand and power tools, including basic machine operation and saw operation.
• Comfort working in a fabrication shop environment focused on plumbing, pipe fitting, and sheet metal work.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly.
• Comfort using iPads and computers to track and document work in the shop.
• Strong work ethic and reliable attendance, with a willingness to learn and grow in the role.
• Positive attitude and interest in building a long-term career in fabrication and the trades.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a fabrication shop is a significant plus.
• Plumbing or piping experience gained in the field, in a fabrication shop, or through technical school is highly beneficial.
• Experience in welding, pipe fitting, or sheet metal work is advantageous.
• Familiarity with construction-related technical skills and machine operation.
• Interest in obtaining trade licenses or certifications such as Journeyman certification.
• Ability to transition into field work in the future if desired.

Work Environment

This role is based in a fabrication shop focused on plumbing, piping, and sheet metal work, located in Nashville approximately two miles south of downtown. Work takes place in an indoor industrial shop environment rather than on a jobsite, using hand tools, power tools, saws, and other industrial machinery, along with iPads to track all work performed. Standard hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, and you must be open to overtime, with start times flexing between 5:00 am and 7:00 am depending on workload. In recent months, typical hours have been 5:00 am to 3:30 pm, with occasional Saturday work based on demand and no Sunday work. Lunch is at 12:30 pm. Steel-toe footwear is required as part of the dress code, and the environment emphasizes safety, productivity, and collaboration. There is also opportunity to move into field work over time for those interested in expanding their career.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nashville, TN.

The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $20.00/hr.
