Payment Application Specialist

Payment Application Specialist The Payment Application Specialist is responsible for researching payment posting issues between Athena and USACS through to resolution. The specialist applies incoming unpostable/correspondence records from the Athena workflow to the correct patient accounts, reviewing support documentation to determine how to appropriately apply payments or correspondence. Essential Job Functions Research posting verification items within Athena for fully worked status. Follow appropriate steps to resolve fully worked inventory. Analyze user requirements and recommend technical solutions to other teams or business partners to ensure timely and accurate resolution of issues. Work with the Athena team to ensure ERA/EFT payors are consistent and provide feedback and solutions via the CRM portal. Assist with balancing and reviewing third‑party relationships. Provide technical support for missing electronic and paper claims processing to teams, monitoring Track It. Review opportunities to convert all one‑time‑use credit‑card payors to EFT/ACH. Review and upload ERA files as needed from payor web portals into Athena. Work with other staff to manage priorities. Help resolve complex payment verification issues. Review A/R management needs of additional businesses and advise on opportunities to improve days in A/R. Participate in meetings as needed. Alert management to unusual issues. Assist with additional documentation for universal SOPs. Assist with new associate training on posting verification. Apply incoming unpostable/correspondence to the correct patient accounts. Gather, review, and verify support documentation to ensure payments are applied correctly. Totals all inputted account edits and ensures that the total equals the batch total for the day. Communicate with other department personnel to resolve payment issues. Perform and assist with other department duties as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of and skill in using personal computer hardware and software in a Windows environment, with an emphasis on spreadsheets. Ability to identify, research, and solve problems and discrepancies and communicate them to management. Ability to communicate with employees and management in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to process assigned duties efficiently and in an organized manner. Ability to perform effectively in a multi‑task work environment. Ability to work overtime and put forth extra effort when needed. Pay close attention to detail. Perform basic mathematical calculations (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing). Strong problem‑solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent. Physical Demands Regularly required to sit for prolonged periods; occasionally walk, stand, bend, stoop, and lift up to 15 pounds. Requires close visual acuity to perform job duties. Hourly Rate $16.33–$30.21 per hour, determined by factors including knowledge, skills, experience, education, geographical location and requirements stated in this job description.
