Lab Design Project Engineer

Amgen Inc

Amgen seeks a Lab Design Project Engineer to provide technical leadership for laboratory facility planning, design, renovation, and delivery across multiple sites. The role ensures laboratory environments meet safety, compliance, functional, and scientific requirements while collaborating with cross-functional teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

Lead laboratory planning, design standards, workflows, and facility requirements development
Translate scientific and operational needs into design criteria, space programs, and functional layouts
Review design packages for functionality, safety, constructability, and regulatory compliance
Manage technical aspects of capital projects from feasibility through commissioning and occupancy
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical issues and support design decisions

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, laboratory science, facilities management, or related field
Significant experience in laboratory design, operations, engineering, or capital project delivery
Knowledge of laboratory planning, space programming, workflow design, and utility requirements
Working knowledge of building codes, fire/life-safety requirements, EHS standards, and laboratory regulations
Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings and design documents
Strong project execution, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
Willingness to travel to project sites and locations as required
