Schedule & Shift Options

• Full-Time ER Position
• Overnight 7pm - 7am
• Flexible scheduling options:
  • 4 x 12-hour shifts
  • 4 x 10-hour shifts

Key Responsibilities – Emergency Medicine

Emergency & Triage Care

• Assist with emergency triage, stabilization, and urgent interventions
• Perform rapid patient assessments and initiate treatment protocols
• Support emergency procedures including CPR, oxygen therapy, and shock management

Advanced Technical Skills

• Perform technical procedures including:
  • IV catheter placement
  • Blood draws and point-of-care diagnostics
  • Radiographs
  • Anesthesia induction and monitoring
• Administer medications via IV, IM, SQ, and oral routes
• Assist with wound care, splinting, and emergency surgical prep

Patient Monitoring & Nursing Care

• Monitor ER patients throughout treatment and recovery
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition
• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care in high-stress situations

Client Communication & Documentation

• Support veterinarians with client updates and discharge education
• Maintain detailed, accurate medical records
• Ensure continuity of care during patient transfers to ICU or specialty services

Team Collaboration

• Work closely with ER doctors, ICU, and specialty teams
• Participate in case discussions and handoffs
• Contribute to a positive, solution-oriented ER culture

What We're Looking For:

• Required

  • 2+ years of experience in Emergency, ICU, or high-volume General Practice
  • Strong technical and nursing skills in fast-paced environments
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and effective under pressure
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to patient advocacy and gold-standard care

• Preferred (Not Required)

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, CVT)
  • Emergency or Specialty hospital experience
  • Interest in pursuing advanced training, licensure, or VTS (ECC)

Skills & Knowledge

• Proficiency in emergency triage, stabilization, and monitoring
• Strong anesthesia and procedural support skills
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in dynamic ER settings
• Solid understanding of emergency pharmacology and protocols

Physical & Emotional Requirements

• Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
• Emotional resilience and adaptability in urgent care situations

Compensation & Comprehensive Benefits

• Competitive Pay:
  • $17.50–$24.00/hr based on experience
  • $25+/hr negotiable for actively Licensed Veterinary Technicians with relevant ER/Specialty experience

About Animal Emergency & Specialty Center - Knoxville

Animal Emergency & Specialty Center of Knoxville is an AAHA Accredited, premier referral and emergency veterinary hospital. We have an emergency and critical care unit that is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We have a variety of board-certified surgeons and specialists at AESC who treat a wide range of veterinary orthopedic, oncology, thoracic, abdominal, and soft-tissue conditions. Our team includes over 20 compassionate and highly trained Licensed Veterinary Technicians, numerous veterinary assistants, other support staff, and supportive administration. We have the latest specialized surgery and diagnostic instrumentation and equipment including 16-slice CT scanner, Vivid iQ echocardiogram platform, digital radiology, ultrasound systems, fluoroscopy unity, endoscopy, high-def Storz tower with new laparoscopic equipment, Arthrex equipment, LigaSure, Autocon III, Storz Ho-YAG laser, Synthes locking plates, and ESF equipment. In 2026, we will be completing our 20,000-square-foot specialty expansion and we will be adding Neurology, Cardiology, and other specialists to our team, as well as a new MRI scanner, CT scanner, linear accelerator, IR suite with ceiling-mounted fluoroscopy, and surgical suites measuring at least 18' x 18'.
