Senior P&C Field Services Technician

Job Description WSP is currently searching for a POWER Testing and Energization (PTE) Senior P&C Field Services Technician for our project locations in Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. Successful applicants will be involved in projects with our PTE Team and will support client needs in electrical testing and commissioning in utility substations, industrial, and bulk electrical power systems. Provides technical direction to junior staff, supports project execution, and contributes to risk mitigation and compliance efforts across diverse and active field environments. Your Impact Perform testing and commissioning of Protection and Control systems on high voltage substations. Conduct on‑site protective relay testing using test sets such as Omicron CMC 256/356 or Doble F6150; examples of relays to be tested include SEL‑311L, SEL‑387, SEL‑487, SEL‑421, SEL‑351S, GE L90, and GE D60. Follow safety protocols and participate in daily safety briefings and job hazard assessments. Use field forms, digital data tools, and mobile applications to document site activities. Perform equipment cleaning, inventory control, and calibration as directed. Support the Project Lead or Field Supervisor on projects. Apply advanced technical knowledge of field instrumentation and troubleshoot technical issues with minimal supervision. Lead tailgate safety meetings, daily job hazard analyses, and regulatory compliance walkthroughs. Provide input to field schedules, equipment needs, and task prioritization to support project managers. Coordinate with subcontractors on site preparation, testing logistics, and equipment deployment. Maintain and track calibration and maintenance logs for field equipment and vehicles. Monitor and promote compliance with site‑specific health, safety, and environmental protocols. Communicate field status, risks, and updates to project leadership and technical staff. Support logistics for multi‑day assignments, including material planning and crew deployment. Collaborate with technical specialists to integrate findings into broader reporting and analysis. Adapt procedures to meet site‑specific requirements while maintaining compliance with regulations. Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement in field data quality, safety, or scheduling. Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 9 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, including medium and high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and control testing. Demonstrable expertise with transmission, generation, or distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, and GE families) and protective schemes. Proven technical skills in protective relay calibration using Omicron CMC 256/356 or Doble F6150, control scheme testing, CT/PT testing, microprocessor relay programming, and static & dynamic testing of microprocessor‑based relays. Proven experience with electrical field testing standards, practices, and procedures such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA. Strong knowledge of testing electrical distribution, generation, and transmission projects ranging from 15 kV to 500 kV, including protective relays and circuit breakers. Proficiency with technical software for testing and data review: ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, and AcSELerator Quickset. Ability to identify and respond to field challenges and equipment malfunctions. Proficient in preparing field logs, sketches, and digital reports. Physical stamina to work in outdoor and demanding conditions. Significant experience collaborating with contractors, technicians, and engineers. Commitment to field safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Strong verbal and written communication skills for field team collaboration. Capability to support a wide variety of tasks in dynamic or changing environments. Adherence to procedures, deadlines, and accountability in the field. Commitment to continued learning and development in technical field services. Understanding of confidentiality and ethical behavior in technical environments. Reliability, punctuality, and detail‑orientation with the ability to work independently or in a team. Track record of workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies. Physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds individually and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, basic color differentiation, and ability to adjust focus. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Willingness to travel up to 80%. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline. Experience testing and troubleshooting electromechanical relays. Experience commissioning electrical equipment on high voltage substations (CTs, CCVTs, PLC systems, DC systems, batteries, and chargers). Current OSHA 30‑hour or 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification. Compensation Expected Salary (all locations): $55.00 - $80.00 per hour.
