About the Role:

The Direct Care Worker plays a vital role in providing compassionate and personalized support to adults who require assistance with daily living activities due to physical, developmental, or cognitive challenges. This position focuses on enhancing the quality of life for clients by promoting independence, dignity, and respect in a safe and supportive environment. The Direct Care Worker collaborates closely with healthcare professionals, family members, and other caregivers to implement individualized care plans tailored to each client’s unique needs. Through consistent monitoring and documentation, the worker ensures that any changes in the client’s condition are promptly communicated to the appropriate parties. Ultimately, this role is essential in fostering a positive and nurturing atmosphere that empowers clients to achieve their highest level of functioning and well-being.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Demonstrated knowledge of adult care principles and practices.
• Completion of any state-required certification or training for direct care workers.
• Ability to pass background checks and meet health screening requirements.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to follow detailed care plans.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Active CPR and First Aid certifications.
• Experience working with individuals with physical, developmental, or cognitive challenges.
• Familiarity with basic health records or documentation systems.

Responsibilities:

• Assist clients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support.
• Administer prescribed medications and monitor clients for any adverse reactions or changes in health status.
• Provide emotional support and companionship to reduce feelings of isolation and promote mental well-being.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of care provided, client progress, and any incidents or concerns.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers and family members to update care plans and ensure continuity of care.
• Support clients in participating in community activities and social engagements to enhance their quality of life.
• Ensure a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment by performing light housekeeping and safety checks.

Skills:

The required caregiver training and assisted living care skills are applied daily to provide hands-on support while ensuring each client's needs are met with professionalism, compassion, and respect. Strong communication skills enable the Direct Care Worker to build trusting relationships with clients, effectively collaborate with healthcare professionals, and support clients' overall well-being. Physical stamina and attention to detail are essential for safely assisting with activities of daily living, monitoring health conditions, and recognizing changes that require prompt attention.

Preferred qualifications, such as CPR certification and experience with electronic health records, further enhance the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations and maintain accurate, timely documentation. In addition, all Direct Care Workers are required to complete CLS (Comprehensive Learning Systems) training to ensure compliance with organizational standards and state requirements. Together, these qualifications and skills enable Direct Care Workers to provide high-quality, person-centered care that promotes client dignity, independence, safety, and overall well-being.
