Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

An opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department (ED). The ideal candidate will manage patient care, demonstrate critical thinking skills, and effectively collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department.
• Perform triage for incoming patients and utilize assessment skills to determine the level of care needed.
• Administer medications and manage IV therapy, including common drips relevant to the ED.
• Conduct patient assessments and document care promptly and accurately.
• Manage and assist with various emergency procedures, ensuring patient safety at all times.
• Work collaboratively with physicians, mid-level providers, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate quality patient care.
• Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Active RN license and one of the following certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC.
• Minimum of two years of experience in an Emergency Department or similar high-acuity setting.
• Ability to perform conscious sedation and demonstrate strong critical thinking in AMI management.
• Experience with intake models and flexible RN to patient ratios is preferred.
• Proficient in managing emergency situations and performing age-appropriate care for patients from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills are essential.

Shift Details

• Full-time position with guaranteed hours (36 hours/week).
• Shifts are primarily evenings with a requirement for on-call rotation and weekend availability.
• Requires participation in floating between ED locations as needed.
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling available but limited to four consecutive shifts.

Working Environment

• The Emergency Department is a Level 4 Trauma Center with 24 beds and 4 critical care rooms.
• Patient care is managed within a mixed environment with both ED holds and intake models for lower acuity patients.
• Security personnel are available 24/7 to ensure patient and staff safety.
• Access to respiratory therapists and other support staff during peak hours enhances patient care delivery.

Additional Information

Work attire consists of navy blue dignity scrubs. Orientation will include hospital-wide training followed by mentorship shifts in assigned ED locations.
