Structural Project Designer | Chicago, ILIMEG is hiring a Structural Project Designer in Chicago, Illinois, to lead structural design efforts on low- to moderate-complexity projects while collaborating with senior staff on larger, more complex work. In this role, you will provide engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight for structural systems for buildings and other structures while working closely with engineers and consultants to deliver effective solutions and positive client outcomes. You’ll also help manage project budgets while training, mentoring, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.Principal ResponsibilitiesLead structural analysis and design for building and structural systems using a variety of materialsCreate detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standardsPartner with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and build strong working relationshipsSupport consulting project execution as part of a project teamLead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling activities to meet deadlines and objectivesDocument design decisions and client instructions while monitoring progress against percent complete and fee expendedAnalyze engineering problems and develop practical, efficient solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultantsPerform in-process reviews of structural designs, calculations, and specifications and apply IMEG quality control processesCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions and identify potential project issues for escalation to the Project ManagerSupport projects through bidding, design, and construction administration while staying current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practicesPrioritize safety and conduct work in an ethical and professional mannerRequired Qualifications and SkillsBachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, requiredMaster’s Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferredEngineering In Training (EIT) Certification preferred3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry ORAssociates degree, or certificate, in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industryProficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specificationsStrong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in mechanics and materials, load paths, design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and structuresAbility to train and mentor less experienced staffProficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including structural engineering design and analysis softwareExcellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groupsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentAttention to detail and problem-solving skillsEagerness to adapt to new challengesProficiency in the use of BIM softwareProficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and OutlookAbility to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight staysThis position is not eligible for sponsorship.Why Join UsIMEG puts people first—with a strong focus on career growth, work-life balance, and meaningful impact.
