Position Overview Senior Electrical Lighting Designer 1 – Energy & Industrial – Company: Sargent & Lundy, Location: Chicago, IL. Responsibilities Under the direction of the Electrical Project Lead, you will work with multi-disciplined engineering and design project teams to design, modify, and upgrade new and existing power plant lighting systems. Create lighting single line diagrams (including lighting circuiting), lighting load sheets, calculations, fixture location drawings, bill of materials, general notes, and detailed drawings. Conduct field walkdowns and collect data at client facilities. Supervise and mentor less experienced employees. Review drawings produced by other personnel and vendors, incorporating them into project drawings. Create life‑cycle cost analysis and update in‑house design standards. Qualifications Essential skills and experience: Associate’s degree. 10+ years of electrical systems experience dedicated to lighting design, development, and engineering. Exceptional AutoCAD and/or MicroStation design experience on power plants or large facility projects. Extensive experience producing deliverables for installers and electricians, assisting engineers with initial design requirements, conceptualizing plans and details to accurately convey lighting requirements, developing low‑voltage circuit designs (single line diagrams, electrical distribution panel layouts), and using commercial lighting calculation programs such as Visual. Continuous learning: keep up with advancements in lighting technology, controls, energy codes, and electrical systems. Detail oriented, flexible, courteous, organized, and possess strong communication skills. Willing to travel to client facilities for walkdowns and meetings. Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or non‑ABET accredited engineering technology degrees.
