Registered Nurse First Assistant - RNFA

Full-time, Contract - 13 week contract with option to extend. Rotating Shift; 5 x 8s. 6am to 14:30 or 8:30 to 1700 or 1000 to 1830; M - F. Call required. ACLS, BLS, PALS, and insurance documentation; minimum of 2 years experience as RNFA; must have experience in primary spine, ortho, and robot surgeries. Call is at least twice per week and every 3rd weekend. In-Office | San Luis Obispo, CA, United States Responsibilities Provide RNFA support during surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety and workflow efficiency. Assist surgeons with instruments, tissue handling, and suturing as requested. Maintain sterile technique and OR readiness, including room setup and turnover. Monitor patient status intraoperatively and communicate updates to the surgical team. Collaborate with perioperative team to optimize patient outcomes and minimize delays. Maintain compliance with regulatory standards (OSHA, HIPAA, hospital policies). Document surgical events, counts, specimens, and postoperative notes accurately. Participate in preoperative assessments and case planning to anticipate needs. Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to performance metrics. Educate patients and families about procedures, recovery expectations, and post‑op care. Support data‑driven decision making by documenting outcomes and pipeline indicators. Experience / Qualifications Current RN license with valid state registration and malpractice coverage. Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) preferred or eligible to obtain certification. Experience as RNFA or scrub nurse in surgical environments with instrument handling skills. Proficiency in sterile technique, OR setup, and room turnover efficiency. Strong intraoperative monitoring skills and ability to communicate updates clearly. Knowledge of regulatory standards (OSHA, HIPAA) and hospital policies. Accurate documentation of surgical events, counts, specimens, and postoperative notes. Preoperative assessment participation and case planning to anticipate needs. Process improvement mindset with trackable performance metrics and pipeline usage.
