Responsibilities Under the general supervision of a Sergeant and in cooperation with the community, the Police Officer performs a variety of policing and law‑enforcement activities. Tasks are service‑oriented and include patrol, investigation, and enforcement functions to provide public safety. Duties include personal danger, adverse weather exposure, apprehending criminals, directing traffic, transporting prisoners, and may allow assumption of Sergeant duties in absence. Incumbents act without close supervision and exercise independent judgement. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, and written work product. Minimum Requirements Current State of Florida Certified Police Officer United States Citizen Minimum 21 years of age High School Graduate or G.E.D. equivalency Pass Physical Agility Test (PAT) Pass Swim Test Pass Oral Board Examination Pass Polygraph Examination Pass Psychological Screening (Law) Pass extensive background investigation Pass Chief and/or Command Staff review Pass extensive medical evaluation Pass drug detection by urinalysis test Meet current State training requirements Stable work history Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record Ability to exercise discretion Good moral character with no felony convictions and no violent incidents No felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement Military discharge must be "Honorable" Certified Police Officers previously employed by the City of Hollywood who successfully passed the hiring process may have certain requirements waived Applicant Notification After an initial review, selected candidates receive an invitation to a vetted background prescreening platform to upload required documentation. Examining and Testing Requirements Candidates must pass the Physical Agility Test (PAT) and Swim Test. Testing is conducted at the Criminal Justice Testing Center, Institute of Public Safety, 3501 Davie Road, Building 21, Davie, FL 33314. The PAT score is valid for six (6) months; the swim score is valid for life. Automatic Background Disqualifiers Five or more traffic‑moving violations in the last five years or a poor overall driving history Two or more driver’s license suspensions in the last five years Any DUI arrest and/or conviction in the last five years Any tattoos on the neck or face Any arrest and/or conviction involving domestic violence issues Failure to disclose any traffic tickets, convictions, past employer information, or other relevant information in background Recent use of any illegal controlled substance Failure to pass background investigation or psychological screening in the past year Any military discharge other than "Honorable" Employment of Relatives The relative must have competed in an appropriate examination process and be on a civil service eligibility list The relative must be among the top three ranked candidates on the list unless expanded by the Civil Service Board Department or Office Director and Human Resources Director must demonstrate it is in the best interests of the City to hire the relative Equal Opportunity The City of Hollywood is an Equal Opportunity / Equal Access Employer.
