Job Description:


- Make a Difference: Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients preparing for surgical and procedural interventions.
- Dynamic Role: Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments, ensuring every detail is covered.
- Patient Safety First: Verify surgical procedure, consent forms, patient identification, and surgical site with utmost precision.
- Data-Driven Decisions: Review laboratory results and diagnostic tests, communicating abnormal findings promptly to the right provider.
- Expert Care: Initiate and maintain peripheral IV access while administering IV fluids and medications as ordered.
- Patient Education: Prepare patients physically and emotionally for their procedures, guiding them through recovery expectations and pain management strategies.
- Collaborative Environment: Work closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, operating room staff, PACU nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members.
- Swift Response: Recognize and respond to changes in patient conditions, taking appropriate nursing interventions.
- Efficiency & Safety: Ensure completion of pre-operative checklists and follow required safety protocols for a smooth transition to the operating room.
- Thorough Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Commitment to Safety: Adhere to infection-prevention, medication-safety, patient-identification, and surgical-safety standards.

Required Qualifications:


- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Current BLS certification and ACLS certification as required.
- Strong IV insertion and venipuncture skills.
- Experience caring for pre-operative surgical patients.
- Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
- Strong assessment, communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced surgical environment.

Preferred Experience:


- Previous Pre-Op/PACU experience in an acute-care hospital.
- Familiarity with multiple surgical specialties and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols.
- Experience working with anesthesia and surgical teams.
- Proficiency in electronic medical record systems.
