Business Analyst

The Business Analyst job family defines skills for formulating and defining system scope using information technology and industry knowledge/requirements, based on both user needs and a good understanding of information technology, business processes, and industry requirements. The job progression identifies responsibilities ranging from assisting, formulating and defining systems scope and objectives to self-directed activities that result in clients long term improvements in business processes.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing business support, resolving issues not requiring extensive business/system knowledge.
• Communicating incident status/clarifying issues with business partners.
• Escalating incidents to seniors where business process and extensive system knowledge is required.
• Resolving application incidents and problems that require app code and/or op modifications such as lower complexity software problem resolution, training issues and documentation, and data problems requiring moderate business analysis, extensive business, and/or system knowledge.
• Acting as a liaison between the business and IT services providers to ensure functional specs are understood and they have what they need to develop their tech specs.
• Analyzing issues to be solved within an enterprise and helping provide solutions to meet the desired business outcomes through the use of IT.
• Understanding and documenting business requirements and user requirements to ensure system designs meet business needs.
• Ensuring knowledge transfer to the support organization occurs prior to system go-live.
• Scheduling and communicating the system go-live date.
• Developing and/or updating documentation and training materials.
• Ensuring IT and SOX compliance is covered.
• Documenting functional requirements that describe the system, process, or product to fulfill business requirements.
• Responsible for functional design of application systems across all technologies and platforms.
• Translating user requirements to process and data requirements.
• Converting specifications about business problems into sequence of detailed programming instructions to solve business problems through automation support.
• Constructing program flow charts to describe the processing of data and development of precise steps and processing logic across all platforms.
• Providing broad understanding of platforms and applications across all technologies.
• Functioning as an IT advisor to the business units.
• Overseeing and guiding the team of Business Analysts I, II.

Qualifications:

• 6+ years of experience required.
• Experience working closely with product and development teams to ensure that the team clearly understands the required functionality to meet market needs.
• Collaborates with product, project and development stakeholders and teams, gathering requirements, coordinating dependencies and identifying risks and opportunities.
• Conducts research, performs studies to obtain data; and analyzes problems to advise on or recommend solutions, utilizing knowledge of theory, principles.
• Represents the customer to the development team.
• Owns the scope of the project, works with Business sponsors, Sponsor users, defines the minimum viable product (MVP).
• Manages and makes visible the product backlog, or the prioritized list of requirements for future product development.
• Defines, writes, and ranks the user stories that direct the design and development work.
• Prioritizes by iterating the order of items in the product backlog.
• Being available to the development team to answer any questions team members have regarding the customers needs and the customers views of how the team is implementing a product feature.
• Collaborates with team members and others, attends playbacks, and collaborates through user testing.
• Accepts user stories; that is, decides when a user story has delivered the outcome.
• Decides when to go to production and owns or collaborates on the "Go To Market" plan.
• Works with the team Lead to execute Iteration Planning Meeting.
• Leads story grooming sessions or requirements clarifications sessions.
• Translates product strategy into requirement documents, using cases and process flows.
• Works with application support and development team to fix software bugs and escalated issues.
• Ability to write necessary stories to deliver functionality, such as user interaction stories, or system integration stories or API level stories.
• Documents, analyzes and proposes process changes or re-engineering approaches based on an understanding of technical problems and solutions as they relate to current and future state business and technical environments.
• Embraces diverse people, thinking and styles.
• Ability to work with multiple IT and business teams to gather and document requirements.
• Experience developing requirements and test scenarios for automated test suites.
• Demonstrated experience with Agile or other rapid application development methods.
• Must possess the technical expertise to apply relevant technical processes to appropriate business needs.
• Must be able to effectively and professionally communicate with management, staff and customers as well as demonstrate sound judgment/reasoning skills.
• Ability to work independently to achieve exceptional results.
• Must have the ability to deliver quality work on time and translate planning into action by following applicable established procedures or methodologies.
• Must also have the ability to proactively monitor and control task status by collecting and analyzing task data to anticipate and address barriers.
• Strong communication, interpersonal skills, customer service skills, customer focus.
• Coaches and mentors team members on business processes and in testing.
• Works well within tight deadlines (able to prioritize).
• 3 - 5 years of project coordination and previous airline business experience is preferred.
