Civil Rights Investigator

Job Description The Civil Rights Investigator plays a critical role in the university’s efforts to promote living, learning, and working environments free from discrimination and harassment. Reporting to the Director of Civil Rights Compliance, the Civil Rights Investigator is responsible for responding to reports of discrimination under university nondiscrimination policies and for ensuring compliance with applicable civil‑rights laws, including Title IX, Title VI, and others. The investigator conducts thorough and impartial investigations, produces detailed and unbiased reports, and maintains close partnerships with multiple university offices and divisions. The position assists in coordinating support for involved parties, refers cases to appropriate partners, provides technical assistance to leadership, leads training and professional‑development activities, and participates in outreach related to discrimination. The investigator provides onsite presence in the office at least three days per week (excluding time off and holidays) to respond to walk‑ins and to offer meeting availability. Required Qualifications Demonstrated judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution, interviewing, and conducting investigations Demonstrated ability to write concise, logical analytical reports Strong listening skills and sensitivity to respect individual needs Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain professional and productive working relationships with partners Preferred Qualifications Juris Doctorate degree or Master’s degree in a related field Experience in an office of discrimination and harassment prevention or civil‑rights compliance Ability to read and interpret complex legal documents Professional experience conducting investigations in a university setting Professional experience conducting workplace investigations Experience applying federal civil‑rights laws, including Title IX, Title VII, the ADA, etc., to facts Overtime Status Exempt: Not eligible for overtime Appointment Type Regular Salary Information Commensurate with experience with a salary range of $77,000–$84,000 per year Review Date August 17, 2026 Employment Conditions Applicants must pass a criminal conviction check.
