TechSite is growing, and we're looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer who knows how to get complex mechanical systems up and running—and can help lead and develop the engineers doing that work. This is a hands-on technical leadership role supporting mission-critical data centers and other complex facilities. You'll lead mechanical commissioning activities, troubleshoot systems, work directly with customers and contractors, and help develop a growing team of commissioning engineers.

We're especially interested in candidates with direct experience performing Level 4 (L4) and Level 5 (L5) commissioning. We want someone who has actually executed functional and integrated systems testing—not just observed or supported the process.

We're also looking for someone who has experience leading people. You don't need to have held a formal management title, but you should have experience directing a team, coordinating field activities, mentoring others, or taking responsibility for the work of other technical professionals.

What You'll Do

Lead Mechanical Commissioning Activities

• Lead and perform mechanical commissioning activities, including L4 functional performance testing and L5 integrated systems testing.
• Develop and execute commissioning test scripts, pre-functional checklists, Functional Performance Tests (FPT), and Integrated Systems Tests (IST).
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, Sequences of Operation, and other technical documentation.
• Perform hands-on testing and verification of mechanical systems, including:
• CRAC and CRAH units
• Chilled water systems and cooling plants
• Air handling units
• Pumps, cooling towers, and dry coolers
• DX and glycol cooling systems
• Mechanical controls and building automation systems
• Verify equipment performance, system capacity, control sequences, alarms, redundancy, and failure responses.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and controls-related issues and coordinate corrective actions with contractors and vendors.
• Use BMS/BAS interfaces to verify system operation, review setpoints, and interpret trend data.

Lead and Develop a Team

• Provide day-to-day leadership for a team of approximately three to four commissioning engineers.
• Coordinate field assignments and direct commissioning activities.
• Train and mentor less-experienced engineers in testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and safety.
• Review work for technical accuracy and completeness.
• Provide feedback, coaching, and support for team development.
• Assist with hiring and developing the commissioning team as TechSite continues to grow.

Manage Projects and Customer Relationships

• Coordinate commissioning schedules and activities with contractors, vendors, and customers.
• Track testing progress, document deficiencies, and verify corrective actions.
• Prepare commissioning reports and project closeout documentation.
• Communicate project status, technical findings, and recommendations to customers.
• Help manage project resources, labor hours, and deliverables.

What We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate has:

• 5+ years of hands-on mechanical commissioning experience, preferably in data centers or mission-critical facilities.
• Direct experience performing L4 and/or L5 commissioning, including functional performance testing and integrated systems testing.
• Strong knowledge of commercial or industrial HVAC and mechanical cooling systems.
• Experience troubleshooting complex mechanical systems and verifying control sequences.
• Experience leading field personnel, directing technical work, or mentoring other engineers or technicians.
• Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and Sequences of Operation.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of commissioning activities.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet customer site access and security requirements.

A mechanical engineering degree is NOT required. We value demonstrated technical ability, practical experience, and leadership skills.

• HVAC service, startup, and troubleshooting
• Building Automation Systems (BAS) or Building Management Systems (BMS)
• Mechanical controls and system integration
• Test and balance (TAB)
• Mechanical field engineering
• Data center facilities operations

If your background is in one of these areas, we're particularly interested in understanding your direct involvement in commissioning and functional testing.

Leadership experience matters to us. Candidates with fewer years of direct commissioning experience but a strong technical background and demonstrated experience leading teams are encouraged to apply.

Salary: $96,000–$156,000 annually , depending on technical experience, commissioning expertise, and leadership qualifications.

Work Environment and Schedule

This is a primarily field-based position supporting data center and mission-critical facility projects throughout Central Ohio.

• Approximately 75% of work is performed at customer sites.
• Remaining time is dedicated to planning, documentation, and reporting.
• Typical on-site hours are between 6:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
• Occasional extended hours may be necessary based on project schedules.
• Travel outside Central Ohio may be required as the company grows.

The position involves working in active construction and mechanical equipment environments, using required PPE, climbing ladders, working from lifts, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
