Acute Care - CNAGhostRx Inc. is seeking a full-time Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to support the Same Day Surgery unit at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana — the flagship VA hospital for Veteran Health Indiana and a five-star-rated facility serving tens of thousands of enrolled veterans across the state. As a CNA on the GhostRx team, you will work under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses in the pre-operative and post-anesthesia recovery areas, helping prepare veterans for ambulatory and outpatient surgical procedures and supporting their safe, comfortable recovery once their procedure is complete. This is a fast-paced, overnight-focused role at the heart of the surgical patient experience: you will greet patients overnight ahead of their surgery, assist with intake and preparation, monitor and record vital signs, support patient mobility and comfort, and help keep the unit running smoothly so that each veteran moves efficiently from check-in through recovery and discharge. Same Day Surgery now operates three 12-hour night shifts, 7:30pm–8:00am, Monday through Friday, with no weekends — a strong fit for clinicians who want meaningful hospital work and a stable lifestyle. Family-friendly suburbs such as Carmel, Fishers, Greenwood, Avon, and Brownsburg are all within a short commute, making the Indianapolis area a great place to live and build a career while serving the men and women who have served our country.Qualification and RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent (GED)Current, active certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the State of Indiana, or eligibility to certify in Indiana, in good standingCompletion of a state-approved nursing assistant training programMinimum of 1 year of CNA experience in a hospital, surgical services, pre-op/PACU, or acute care setting strongly preferredCurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart AssociationWorking knowledge of vital signs measurement, infection-control practices, and standard patient-care proceduresComfort working in a fast-paced perioperative environment with frequent patient turnoverFamiliarity with electronic medical record (EMR) documentation; experience with VA systems (CPRS) a plusStrong interpersonal and communication skills for working with veterans, families, nurses, and surgical providersU.S. citizenship required (per VA contract terms); must have resided in the United States continuously for the previous 3 yearsMust successfully pass a federal background investigation, pre-employment drug screen, and pre-employment physical examinationRequired to receive the annual seasonal influenza vaccination per VA health care personnel policy (or approved medical/religious exemption)Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods; bend, twist, and reach throughout the shift; and assist with lifting, transferring, and positioning patients (up to 50 lbs of force, with team-lift support for heavier loads)ResponsibilitiesPrepare the Same Day Surgery unit and pre-operative bays for each day's surgical schedule, ensuring rooms are stocked, clean, and ready for patient arrivalGreet and welcome veterans and their families on the morning of surgery, helping them feel informed and at easeAssist patients with changing into surgical attire, securing personal belongings, and completing pre-operative preparation under RN directionMeasure, record, and report vital signs, height, weight, and intake/output accurately in the electronic medical recordSupport RNs with pre-operative tasks such as patient positioning, application of monitoring equipment, and gathering suppliesMonitor patients in the post-anesthesia recovery phase for comfort and safety, promptly reporting changes in condition to the supervising RNAssist patients with mobility, ambulation, toileting, and other activities of daily living before and after their procedureTransport patients safely by wheelchair or stretcher between pre-op, the operating room area, recovery, and dischargeHelp prepare patients and the unit for discharge, including reuniting patients with belongings and supporting a smooth handoff to family or caregiversCollect and label specimens and assist with point-of-care tasks as delegated by the RNMaintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked work environment, and clean and turn over bays between patientsAdhere to OSHA, Joint Commission, CDC, and VA safety and infection-control standards at all timesProtect veteran patient privacy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and VA privacy policiesCommunicate effectively with the perioperative nursing team, surgical staff, and other departments to support efficient patient flowParticipate in unit huddles, competency assessments, and continuing education as assignedComplete other duties as assigned that relate to the responsibilities of a Certified Nursing Assistant in a surgical services settingGhostRX, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
