Deputy in Training – Full Time Position at the Fredericksburg Sheriff’s Office. Responsibilities include securing the courthouse, serving civil processes, managing prisoner transports, and performing routine law enforcement tasks after certification. Application Process Submit an online application to be considered for testing. You will be invited by Deputy Sheila Jones via email or phone prior to the testing date. Testing Day Arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled testing time. Bring a valid driver’s license, dress appropriately, and wear fitness attire with athletic shoes. Water and snacks are allowed. Unauthorized backpacks, bags, cell phones, smart watches, or other electronic devices that access the internet are not permitted; leave them in your vehicle. Testing Process Lawfit Assessment Background investigation Polygraph Psychological test Medical Examination Conditional Offer Oral review board Interview with the Sheriff Training Schedule Upon hire, attend the April 2026 or July 2026 Law Enforcement Basic class at the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy. Minimum Requirements 21 years of age by the completion of the law enforcement basic academy Possess a valid driver’s license High School Diploma or GED No more than two moving violations in the last two years No convictions of DUI, eluding, or leaving the scene of an accident in the last five years No record of two or more DUIs No driver’s license revocation or suspension in the last five years No convictions, guilty or no contest pleas to a Class 1 or 2 misdemeanor involving moral turpitude No convictions, guilty or no contest pleas to any misdemeanor sex offense including sexual battery or consensual intercourse with a minor 15 or older No convictions, guilty or no contest pleas to any offense of domestic battery Must undergo a background investigation including fingerprint‑based criminal history records Undergo a physical examination before the conditional offer of employment Must have a negative result on pre‑employment drug screening Benefits Competitive health, dental and vision insurance; generous vacation and sick leave; 13 paid holidays per year.
