Psychiatrist Position at Central New York Psychiatric Center

Duties Description

Central New York Psychiatric Center (CNYPC), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) facility is recruiting Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrists for their Corrections-Based Satellite Units located in New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS), Elmira Correctional Facility.

As a Psychiatrist at CNYPC, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team that provides culturally competent and evidence-based treatment and support services in a recovery-oriented environment for incarcerated patients that are in custody of DOCCS, including:

• Conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments, crisis intervention, and participating in multidisciplinary team meetings
• Creating treatment plans including medication management
• Attending meetings with DOCCS medical and executive staff
• Establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with DOCCS
• Assisting DOCCS with capacity evaluations
• Responding to behavioral health emergencies within the correctional facility
• Pursuing outpatient Court Order Psychiatric Medications (COPM) and Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT)
• Conducting Prelease Coordination (PRC) to ensure individuals have mental health resources upon release

About CNYPC:

CNYPC operates both Forensic Inpatient Operations at Marcy NY, and Corrections-Based Operations for incarcerated individuals with mental illness in the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) custody.

About Elmira Correctional Facility:

Elmira is a historic city in Chemung County, New York, located in the South-Central Tier of the state, about 7 miles north of the Pennsylvania border. Elmira offers scenic hiking, boating, and fishing opportunities. The Finger Lakes Trail and Harris Hill Park provide hiking and glider launches, while the Chemung River and nearby Waneta and Lamoka lakes are ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide (HELPS) program if they have:

• Psychiatrist 1: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and completion of a training program in psychiatry approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
• Psychiatrist 2: License and current registration to practice medicine in New York State, and certification in psychiatry approved by the ABPN.
• OR
• Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
