Safety Monitor FT Days

Safety Monitors/Security Guards are responsible for the overall security and well‑being of patients, staff, visitors, and physical facilities of Butler Hospital by ensuring that the proper policies and procedures are followed in an orderly, efficient, and professional manner. They also work in the Emergency Room/Patient Assessment Department, perform screening procedures for all non‑staff entering the department, and assist Patient Assessment staff as needed. Standards Make routine rounds of smoke and/or fire and investigate any reports or questions. Secure doors and windows as necessary. Turn lights off where possible and on where necessary. Maintain equipment and facilities in proper condition. Set thermostats at proper settings. Check for signs of smoke or fire and investigate; initiate or follow proper fire procedures, sounding the signal to alert appropriate personnel. Report unusual conditions or situations to the proper authorities via the Daily Shift Report, Incident Report, or telephone. Assist clinical staff when requested, always accompanied by a clinical staff member. Assist hospital staff in general as necessary. Promote cooperation between inside and outside security guards to ensure proper traffic and parking controls. Station self at the main entrance lobby when not on rounds to be immediately accessible to the switchboard (inside). Patrol in vehicles or parks; drive Duncan Lodge to watch main road and walk gates when not on rounds (outside). Observe relevant risk‑management and infection‑control policies and procedures and any applicable quality‑improvement activities. Attend orientation and ongoing in‑service education as required. Demonstrate competence in day‑to‑day interactions with patients, family members, or friends present at Butler Hospital. Demonstrate therapeutic interaction and meet patient needs, respecting the following: Child – respect the smaller size, bend or squat as needed, avoid jargon, show equal respect. Adolescent – provide privacy, respect confidentiality, show equal respect. Adult – respect the patient’s involvement in decision‑making, offer choices when possible. Geriatric – be aware of sensory deficits; speak slowly and clearly; use full name. Assist clinical staff in all de‑escalation efforts and team interventions. Attend yearly de‑escalation trainings and additional trainings as scheduled. Specifications Previous security, police or military police background is desirable. Valid driver’s license. Training and Experience Ability to multi‑task and work collaboratively with mental‑health clinicians. Excellent communication skills. Experience in mental health or law enforcement is a plus.
