Bus Driver

The Bus Driver is responsible for transporting students, teachers and adults for field trips and ministry events. Drivers are responsible for the safe transportation, loading, and unloading of students, teachers and adults.

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. The omission of specific statements of the duties or functions does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Transports students and teachers on field trips to various locations; planning necessary route(s) and stops as needed.
• Performs pre- and post-inspections of vehicle/bus to ensure proper operating conditions; ensures adherence to prescribed Department of Transportation standards, and compliance with proper safety standards.
• Services buses with gas, diesel fuel, and oil checks and when necessary, fills tires and batteries.
• Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure operating condition.
• Washes bus as needed.
• Maintains logs as required by supervisor.
• Obeys traffic laws and follows established traffic and transportation procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education and/or Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) or more years of licensed driving experience.
• Must possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and a clean driving history.

Other Skills and Abilities:

• Proven work experience as a School Bus Driver or similar role.
• Clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations in the past 6 years.
• Ability to carry out assigned routes on time.
• Ability to operate a bus safely.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Extensive knowledge of vehicle maintenance and the ability to diagnose mechanical problems.
• Excellent time management skills.

Must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.

Physical Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and sit for long periods of time, operate a vehicle, lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderately heavy objects and materials of 20-50 pounds, exercise static strength, walk, bend, crouch, talk, feel, grasp, hear and perform repetitive motions of the hands, wrists, and arms; exercise multi-limb coordination, spatial orientation, control precision, and response orientation.
• Prolonged periods of operating the vehicle/bus.
• Must be able to assist students when needed.
