Advanced Practitioner (Hospitalist) (Per Diem)

The Advanced Practitioner (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) is responsible for providing healthcare services to patients under the supervision of, and/or in collaboration with, the attending physician. Services include medical evaluation, treatment, counseling, referrals, diagnostic evaluations, therapeutic remediation, surgical assistance and pharmaceutical prescriptions. The practitioner is also a patient advocate and participates in patient satisfaction, quality and performance improvement initiatives. Job Duties and Responsibilities Assess, treat, counsel and educate patients and families. Evaluate patients and perform physical examinations, obtaining, studying and updating medical histories. Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as radiology and laboratory studies. Develop and implement patient management and treatment plans. Coordinate and communicate patient care with other health professionals and institutions. Provide high-quality health care based on best practice and evidence-based medicine. Perform therapeutic and diagnostic procedures aligned with clinical privileges. Maintain professional knowledge through educational workshops, professional publications and societies. Engage in the development, implementation and tracking of clinical management guidelines. Teach multidisciplinary students and physician residents/fellows. Demonstrate improvement in clinical care, customer service, operational processes, and safety. Utilize the electronic medical record system and maintain documentation for billing. Demonstrate financial responsibility and accountability in resource use. Physical and Sensory Requirements Sit up to 8 hours per day (3 hours at a time). Stand up to 8 hours per day. Walk up to 6 hours per day. Frequently lift, carry and push objects up to 10 pounds; rarely up to 75 pounds. Frequently stoop, bend and reach above shoulder level. Frequently handle, grasp, twist and turn as related to procedures. Ability to perceive objects by touch, hear normal conversation, see generally (near, far, color, peripheral), and speak in normal conversation and presentations. Education and Credentials Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner or Medical Physician Assistant with a current license to practice in Pennsylvania or New Jersey. Physician Assistants must also hold current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Training and Experience One year of experience in a similar setting is preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
