College/Department Information The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 304 students per class. The MCG educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, with regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state, and two four-year campuses located in Athens (in partnership with the University of Georgia) and in Savannah (in partnership with Georgia Southern University). MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provide more than 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to approximately 575 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Job Summary Under the supervision of the Lab Director/Investigator and Business Manager and following established policies and procedures, this position will perform a variety of research activities to include participating in carrying out research objectives, as well as ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines for this Cardiology Research Program. Will provide technical support to the Director, Investigator and Business Manager and serve as a liaison between the institution and the sponsor(s). Other duties will be to assist with monitoring appropriate patient lists for potential qualifying study enrollment, interview and enroll patients in the study as needed. Prepare reports for milestone reporting, future grant proposals, publications and presentations. Negotiate purchases of lab equipment. Manage/perform all requests made by the CV Center Director or school of medicine accurately and in a timely manner.
Responsibilities The responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Patient Recruitment
Work with Pl to help identify patient candidates for recruitment into the approved clinical trials and other research studies. IRB and Grant Proposal Submissions
Assist Pl with compilation of data for IRB submissions and protocol development for grant submissions. Records
Maintain accurate and up to date regulatory records and IRB on all research projects and ongoing studies. Financial Reports
Retrieve financial reports from Business Manager to maintain accounts of the ongoing studies monthly. Screen and Consent
Will screen and consent patients for the studies and be able to coordinate the effort needed for the level of support recommended in the planned clinical trial/research project. Study Status
Will provide written summaries of the status for each study and submit to the sponsor and IRB as recommended. Data Entry
Data entry as needed for each study. Coordinate Visits
Coordinating visits for the patients per the protocol and maintaining the calendar. Blood Collection
Some effort may be needed for blood collection and handling. Supervise and Train
Indirectly supervise and train students and other lab personnel on the activities and protocols of this cardiology lab as needed. Maintain Equipment
Help maintain equipment servicing, negotiate lab purchases. Other
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research. OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience.
Preferred Qualifications Previous supervisory experience.
