CNA - DAY SHIFT

Position Certified Nurse Assistant – Day Shift Location Pawtucket, RI Job Objective Perform routine resident care duties delegated by the registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. Assist residents with personal needs and care, including mobility, aligning with the home’s standards and philosophy and complying with all regulations, codes, policies and procedures. Job Standards (Qualifications) High school education preferred. Ability to hear, understand, read, write, and communicate effectively; good English, document observations. Previous experience in a hospital or long‑term care facility desirable. Meets the State of RI requirements for the Certified Nurse Assistant and is currently on the registry. Ability to position and move a resident and bear the entire weight of the resident in an emergency; move the resident to safety. Possesses the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations. Job Responsibilities and Duties Identify and recognize the uniqueness of each resident, including those with dementia, and adapt care under the Nursing Unit Coordinator. Establish relationships with residents and families; communicate with respect and dignity. Observe and report changes or observations in residents’ behavior and physical status; seek guidance via proper communication channels. Use appropriate verbal and nonverbal communication skills; manage barriers such as language, sensory changes, memory loss, and disorientation; use good judgment for wandering or combativeness. Promote independence of residents within their physical, mental, and intellectual limitations; foster self‑help skills; allow choices and adequate time for care. Work effectively and cooperatively as a team member within the department and with other disciplines; cooperate with team lifting & toileting. Apply mechanical supports and soft restraints appropriately; document them consistently and accurately; adapt to changing care needs. Identify basic principles of nutrition and hydration; recognize and report deviations from residents’ normal intake/output; understand therapeutic diet requirements. Perform infection control practices: handwashing, glove use, safe disposal, universal precautions, isolation technique, and cleanliness of resident care areas. Provide personal care: bathing, perineal care, oral hygiene, nail and hair care, dressing, meal prep, feeding assistance, bowel/bladder elimination care, and care of the dying and post‑mortem care. Perform restorative services: assist with ambulation, eating, dressing; maintain range of motion; proper turning, positioning, transferring; bowel & bladder training; use of prosthetic devices. Recognize resident right to privacy and confidentiality; respect choices, activities, and belongings; report abuse/neglect per policy.
