Operations Support Specialist

Overview Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as an Operations Support Specialist in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Responsibilities The successful candidate will possess strong analytical and communication skills to document evaluation activities, conduct trend analyses, and present findings to all levels of management. This position involves coordinating continuous improvement activities, influencing positive cultural change, and ensuring that all operations procedures are properly revised and validated. The work requires a blend of independent project management and collaborative engagement to drive process execution, quality, and safety across the site. Demonstrated experience coordinating, tracking, and record keeping. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with procedural compliance, operations processes, systems, and programs. Audit/surveillance and report‑writing experience. Experience using or managing a budget. Experience completing and submitting purchase requisitions. Ability to create, prioritize, and execute scheduled tasks. Self‑motivated with strong attention to detail. Wide range of computer skills, including implementation of requirements or enhancements for records‑management‐related applications. Ability to solve issues or problems based on experience, professional concepts, and organizational objectives. Ability to deliver clear and concise communications to employees and managers of all levels. Knowledge of Documentum and other records‑management tools. Experience working in a configuration‑management environment. Experience working in records management to satisfy DOE regulatory, legal, and contractual requirements, RCRA and NMED requirements and activities directing the program team to furnish complete historical records of project operations. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree, or Associate’s degree with four (4) years of office/clerical experience, or High school diploma or equivalency with eight (8) years of office/clerical experience. Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information. Preferred Requirements Nuclear or high‑hazard facility experience. Experience/proficiency with assessment programs and methodologies, including the planning and performing of assessments.
