Who Can Open An Account?

To open a Trade Republic account, you must meet the following criteria: You own a smartphone (iOS or Android operating system). You are at least 18 years old and have your permanent residence in Germany with tax liability in Germany. You have a European cell phone number and a SEPA bank account.

Why Can You Offer Low Fees?

Over the past years, we have built a powerful digital financial institution with modern technology. When placing an order, Savings Plans are free of brokerage fees and there is one euro for single trades plus third party costs and spreads, but no order commission. All Trade Republic cards are subscription free. You have the choice between a virtual card (free), classic card (5 € one-time payment) and mirror card (50 € one-time payment). Trade Republic doesn't charge fees for transactions or any ATM withdrawals above 100 €. For non-euro transactions, no additional bank fees are charged.

Are You A Bank?

Trade Republic Bank GmbH is a full German bank. We are supervised by the BaFin (Federal Financial Supervisory Authority) and offer you the usual reliability and security of a German full bank. The money you pay in is held in one or, in principle, equally divided between two omnibus trust accounts with banks that are also authorized to conduct deposit business. These are currently Deutsche Bank AG, J.P. Morgan SE, HSBC Continental Europe S.A and Citibank Europe plc. For higher balances your funds are further diversified in liquidity funds, as detailed below "How Is My Money Protected".

How Is My Money Protected?

Customer funds are either held partially in omnibus trust accounts at partner banks or diversified into money market funds. Customer funds held in an omnibus trust account at Trade Republic's trusted partner banks are protected by the deposit guarantee scheme of the respective partner bank up to 100,000 € per customer. Partner banks are currently Citibank Europe plc, Crédit Agricole CIB, Deutsche Bank AG, HSBC Continental Europe S.A., J.P. Morgan SE, Natixis CIB and SEB AB. The funds diversified across liquidity funds are held directly in a separate custody account. These assets are strictly safeguarded and held segregated from Trade Republic's own assets. They are protected without limit. The securities in your custody account are not covered by the deposit guarantee scheme, they are your property instead. They are held by Trade Republic Bank GmbH in the respective domestic and international depositories. Therefore, the securities are always yours.
