Mechanical Engineering Group Supervisor
In this role, the Mechanical Engineering Group Supervisor will supervise a team of Mechanical Engineering personnel, estimate project staffing needs, and schedule and assign work. You will prepare discipline estimates and work plans and review and approve mechanical investigations and studies. Your leadership will drive high quality work plans, successful implementation of mechanical components, team support and training, and project performance. This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
Major responsibilities include planning, developing, directing, and participating in the day-to-day mechanical engineering activities utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures, design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs. The role also involves supervising, coordinating, and reviewing the work of personnel assigned, preparing or overseeing the preparation of mechanical discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and managing implementation and performance accordingly. Additionally, the position requires reviewing and recommending mechanical engineering aspects of bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering, reviewing and approving key calculations, licensing evaluations, design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders, for the project to which assigned.
The Mechanical Engineering Group Supervisor will ensure that assigned mechanical engineering personnel receive appropriate on-the-job training and mentorship for their professional development, assist in the preparation and reviews of project procedures and cost estimates for proposals, forecasts, and change orders, and manage work process execution and assure technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standards. The role also involves being accountable for error-free, high-quality deliverables, building an inclusive team environment where all are able and expected to contribute to the maximum of their capabilities, creating meaningful goals working with the team and ensuring goals are met, planning and participating in cross-discipline design reviews, and ensuring thorough impact reviews are performed for any proposed changes.
The position requires resolving and responding to the client, regulator, or field-initiated questions on engineering, communicating complex technical issues and recommending solutions to the client, project, and functional management as directed and as appropriate, staying up to date with new software, automation work processes, technical developments, and their implementation, understanding specialist group work process and dependencies between functions, participating in Technical Working Groups or specialty workshops, and proactively contributing to Bechtel Technical Information Program and presenting technical papers.
Education and experience requirements include a bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree. Required knowledge and skills include a minimum of 4 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role, a U.S. Professional Engineering License in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Chemical Engineering, and extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering work processes, procedures, and specifications.
