Hemodialysis Technician

Job Description

Assists hemodialysis patients before, during and after procedures. Maintain dialysis machines to ensure proper functioning

Primary Responsibilities

• Review results of monthly water cultures of all HD equipment; and follow protocol for abnormal results
• Daily disinfecting and weekly bleaching of machines
• Maintaining machines which include updating clipboards, restocking machine supplies and ensuring machines are tidy and ready for use
• Physical requirement needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift
• Assists with patient care including: transfers of patients into bed, obtaining weight, applying monitoring equipment
• Assists in monitoring through treatment
• Assists with set up and monitoring of all hemodialysis equipment
• Collects monthly water cultures of all HD equipment; Review results and follow protocol for abnormal results
• Identifies and participates in quality improvement process
• Closely collaborates with Clinical Engineering and outside vendors to maintain equipment
• Daily water testing, completion of equipment quality control checks, machine logs, machine disinfection per policy
• Works with materials management team to maintain Par levels of supplies, monitors integrity of products including expiration dates, participates in the evaluation of new products and supplies as needed

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required. Vocational or Technical training preferred.
• License Cert Clin Hemodialysis Tech required.
• 1-3 years related work experience required.
• Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

Age based Competencies: Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal:Birth to 6 months, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 - over.

Social/Environmental Requirements:

Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the work day do not compromise the work.

Work routine is fairly consistent, but employee needs to be able to use judgment to respond to events several times a week.

Potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions

• Daily: Protective equipment required(Respirator,earplugs,mask,gloves,eyewear etc), Potential exposure to infectious diseases and/or airborne pathogens, Potential exposure to infectious diseases and/or bloodborne pathogens.

Health Care Status: HCW1: Regular, day-to-day contact; both face-to-face and hands-on (having close contact within three feet for at least five minutes). Examples: physicians, clinical nurses, phlebotomist, medical assistants, PFT tech, and x-ray tech.-Health Care Worker Status may vary by department

Sensory Requirements:

Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Color vision/perception, Visual clarity <3 feet, Conversation, Monitoring Equipment, Telephone, Background Noise.

Physical Requirements:

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.

Pay Range:

$26.00 - $34.00

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
