InBody Scan Technician

An InBody scan is a quick, non-invasive, and highly accurate body composition analysis that measures weight, muscle mass, body fat percentage, and visceral fat in under a minute. It uses bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) to deliver detailed, actionable insights into body composition across different body segments.

Standard Operating Procedure: InBody Assessment Review & Documentation for the Medical Assistant.

Purpose: To ensure systematic communication, immediate clinical review, and precise documentation of InBody assessment results to address chronic pain, deconditioning, and fall risk.

1. Post-Assessment Immediate Action

1. Direct Delivery: Immediately after the InBody assessment is completed, the InBody MA must take the physical results directly to the Medical Provider for review with the patient during the current visit. The Medical Provider will refer to the Registered Dietitian or the Physical Reconditioning Provider (Chiropractic Doctor) for treatment plan.

2. Handling Out-of-Sync Visits

1. Delayed Review: If the patient has already seen the Medical Provider prior to the assessment, the InBody MA will:
• Scan the InBody results into the patient's electronic health record (EHR).
• Document in the Care Note that the results are pending review and must be addressed at the next visit by the Medical Provider. Documentation in the Care Note should be as follows: InBody assessment completed (date), Medical provider will review at next visit.
2. 3. Medical Provider Review & Referral
• Provider Action: The Medical Provider reviews the assessment (body composition, muscle mass distribution, and functional contributors) and integrates findings with fall-risk testing.
• Referrals: The Provider will refer the patient to the Registered Dietitian and/or Physical Reconditioning department to address deconditioning and strength.
3. 4. Documentation Requirements (MA Responsibility)
• The MA will document the findings using the following mandatory snippet for CPT Code 97750 x 1 unit: Medical Necessity for InBody Assessment Care Plan Snippet: Patient has chronic pain with documented chronic opioid therapy, neuropathy, and/or obesity which effects strength and balance that puts the patient at a greater risk for falls. A whole-body InBody assessment was performed and reviewed with the patient to evaluate body composition, muscle mass distribution, and functional contributors to deconditioning. Findings were integrated with strength and fall-risk testing to guide the care plan.

The outlined care plan is medically necessary to:

• Reduce fall risk and prevent injury
• Improve functional capacity and safety
• Optimize pain management while minimizing medication-related adverse effects

Based on these findings, the patient was recommended to schedule follow-up with our Registered Dietitian and/or the Physical Reconditioning department to address deconditioning, improve strength and endurance, and reduce fall risk within a transdisciplinary pain management model. The patient will be scheduled for a repeat InBody assessment in 3 months to assess improvement.

5. Scheduling & Tracking

1. The MA must ensure that the repeat InBody assessment (scheduled for 3 months out) is documented in both the Care Plan and the Care Note to ensure continuity of care.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is high to moderate.
