Assistant Manager

Position Overview

We're looking for an experienced assistant manager to support daily operations at Stone Street Cafe's flagship Manhattan location. This is a hybrid role: you'll split your time between management responsibilities and front-counter service during peak hours. We need someone who can handle high-volume service pressure, think operationally, and deliver genuinely good hospitality to our guests.

Stone Street is a and breakfast cafe in Nolita with strong local and tourist demand. We're expanding—new locations opening soon, so this is a real growth opportunity for the right person.

Key Responsibilities

• Guest Recovery & Service – Handle complaints professionally and directly with guests. Resolve discounts, refunds, and service issues with authority and composure. Maintain calm, welcoming presence even during rush.
• Counter & Prep – Work alongside the team during peak hours . Ring orders, prepare drinks, and deliver items when needed.
• Opening & Closing – Execute opening procedures (lights, equipment startup, pastry setup, cash drawers, opening photo). Close safely and accurately (cash reconciliation, food storage, cleaning, temperature checks).
• Scheduling & Staffing – Assist with scheduling, track attendance, communicate shift changes clearly, and cover shifts when needed.
• Vendor & Equipment – Track orders, receive deliveries, note damage or shortages. Report equipment issues immediately.
• Daily Reporting – Track sales, labor, waste, and notable incidents. Communicate issues to management clearly.

Required Skills & Experience

• 3+ years in a fast-casual or specialty-coffee cafe, restaurant, or high-volume retail environment.
• Proven ability to stay organized and execute under pressure during peak service.
• Strong communication—can explain procedures clearly to Spanish- and English-speaking staff.
• Guest-facing hospitality instinct. You address guests directly, listen to feedback, and keep things calm.
• Reliability and punctuality. Opening/closing shifts happen consistently.
• Comfort with numbers—can reconcile cash, read a sales report, track basic P&L items.

Nice to Have

• Food-service permit or health-inspection familiarity.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Compensation & Schedule

• Hourly pay + tips (tipped positions).
• Flexible scheduling; some opening shifts, some closing shifts, some peak-hour coverage.
• Growth pathway: as we expand, strong assistant managers become candidates manager roles at new locations.

You take pride in execution. You notice when the pastry display is out of stock or a guest is frustrated, and you fix it immediately rather than waiting for someone else to notice. You can switch from counter service to logistics to guest problem-solving in the same shift.
