Coding Analyst

Hiring Range: $30.14 to $40.18

The Southcentral Foundation (SCF) Coding Analyst is responsible for reviewing and assigning accurate medical and behavioral codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services performed by physicians and other qualified healthcare providers in the office setting. The Coding Analyst is an expert in coding across a wide range of services, including evaluation and management, surgery, radiology, pathology, behavioral, and medical procedures. The Coding Analyst demonstrates expertise in medical coding guidelines and regulations including compliance and reimbursement. The Coding Analyst has expertise in CPT, HCPCs, and ICD-10 as well as knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology necessary to correctly code provider diagnosis and services. The Coding Analyst is responsible for training and/or mentoring Coding Specialist staff. In addition, the Coding Analyst demonstrates expertise in denials management, identifying root causes and proposing solutions.

Remote after 30 days or proficient. Must live in Anchorage Municipality.

Qualifications:

SCF programs are established for the purpose of serving a primary population comprised of Alaska Natives who are affiliated with the Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI) and Alaska Natives and American Indians within SCF's geographical service area. All employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of the CIRI members and of the general culture and needs of Alaska Natives and American Indians. Such knowledge is critical in order to ensure the achievement of the mission and vision of SCF, "Working together with the Native community to provide the best services with Native staff who value the family and family wellness as the heart of the Native community":

1. Associate's Degree in Accounting, Health Care Financial Management or related field; OR equivalent combination of training, education and related experience.
2. CPC (Certified Professional Coding) Certification through AAPC or CCS or CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist, Certified Coding Specialist-Professional) or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) certification through AHIMA required.
3. Six (6) years of medical or behavioral coding experience.
4. Two (2) years of clerical experience working in a health care organization or in a position that requires understanding and application of basic accounting principles or equivalent.
5. Two (2) years' experience training/mentoring others in coding CPT, E&M, ICD-10, and HCPCS

Employee Health Requirements:

Compliance with our Employee Health procedure is a condition of SCF employment. You are required to agree that you will comply with all job-related employee health screening and immunizations prior to your first day of employment. Jobs designated as a Health Care Personnel (HCP) position, requires that you have documentation that you have completed the following immunizations prior to your first day of employment: MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Hepatitis B, Influenza, and T-dap (Tetanus - Diphtheria - Pertussis), COVID19 vaccination required.

As an additional condition of employment, the successful applicant must be able to comply with the applicable standards of SCF's Background Check Policy, including the requirements imposed by the Alaska Barrier Crimes/Conditions and Background Checks regulations, the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, the Crime Control Act of 1990, and the mandatory and permissive exclusion provisions of the Social Security Act.
