Senior Family Law Attorney (5+ Years Experience) | Lead Turco Legal's Expansion into Maine
$125k - $225kTurco Legal, PC
*Help Launch Turco Legal's Maine Office* Turco Legal is expanding into Maine, and we're looking for an exceptional family law attorney to help build and lead our presence in the state. This is a rare opportunity to join one of New England's largest boutique family law firms while playing a leadership role in launching our Maine practice. If you have at least five years of experience primarily practicing family law in Maine and are looking for more than just another lateral move, we'd love to speak with you. This opportunity is ideal for experienced family law attorneys who enjoy building relationships, mentoring younger attorneys, and helping shape the future of a growing firm, but who would rather spend their time practicing law than managing payroll, accounting, technology, marketing, recruiting, human resources, and the countless other responsibilities that come with running a law practice. At Turco Legal, our experienced administrative and operational teams handle those responsibilities so our attorneys can focus on serving clients and practicing law at the highest level. This opportunity may be particularly appealing if you've ever considered opening your own practice or becoming a partner in a small firm but have hesitated because of the business responsibilities that come with it. Here, you'll have the opportunity to help build something meaningful while enjoying the support, resources, and financial stability of an established regional firm. We're looking for someone who enjoys practicing independently, exercising sound judgment, and collaborating with colleagues when additional perspective is valuable. *Responsibilities* Responsibilities include: * Represent clients in a broad range of family law matters, including divorce, parental rights and responsibilities, child support, spousal support, modifications, enforcement and contempt actions, guardianships, adoptions, name changes, and related family law proceedings.
* Manage a sophisticated caseload from initial consultation through resolution.
* Prepare for and appear at hearings, judicial settlement conferences, mediations, depositions, trials, and other court proceedings.
* Negotiate fair and practical settlements whenever possible while preparing every case for trial when necessary.
* Develop and implement case strategy as matters evolve.
* Develop discovery strategy, including determining evidentiary needs and the appropriate timing of discovery.
* Perform legal research and prepare legal memoranda.
* Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery requests, discovery responses, correspondence, and settlement documents.
* Collaborate with and mentor associate attorneys as our Maine team grows.
* Work closely with experienced paralegals and legal assistants to deliver exceptional client service. *Minimum Qualifications* Please apply only if you meet the following minimum qualifications: * Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
* Licensed to practice law and in good standing in Maine.
* At least five years of experience primarily handling family law matters in Maine.
* Comprehensive knowledge of complex financial issues arising in divorce, including business valuations, executive compensation, equity interests, forensic accounting, vocational assessments, and related financial matters.
* Extensive experience handling complex cases involving parental rights and responsibilities, relocation, domestic violence, substance use disorders, and mental health issues.
* Demonstrated willingness to take appropriate cases through trial when settlement is not in the client's best interests.
* Excellent legal research, writing, advocacy, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
* Strong attention to detail and exceptional case management abilities.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and modern legal technology.
* Reliable transportation.
* A willingness to work primarily in the Portland area as we establish our Maine office. During the initial launch period, work arrangements may be flexible while we finalize our permanent office location. *Preferred Qualifications* The following are not required but would be considered a plus: * Certified Financial Litigator (CFL) designation.
* Experience handling family law appeals.
* Experience litigating interstate or international family law matters.
* Experience using modern practice management software.
* Interest in mentoring junior attorneys.
* Interest in advancing to a Partner or Partner in Charge role. *What You Can Expect at Turco Legal* When you join Turco Legal, you can expect: * The opportunity to help build and lead Turco Legal's Maine practice.
* Individual empowerment supported by an experienced and collaborative team.
* Ongoing mentorship, professional development, and continuing legal education.
* Modern technology and administrative systems designed to allow attorneys to focus on practicing law.
* Experienced paralegals and legal assistants who work collaboratively across the firm.
* Competitive compensation with robust performance incentives.
* A clear path toward leadership and partnership.
* Health, dental, and vision insurance with premiums paid 100% by the firm.
* Generous paid time off.
* 401(k) with employer matching.
* Employer-paid parking at all firm offices.
* The opportunity to work with people who genuinely enjoy collaborating and supporting one another. *About Turco Legal* Turco Legal is one of New England's largest boutique divorce and family law firms, with approximately 20 attorneys and offices throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire. We focus exclusively on divorce and family law, allowing our attorneys to develop deep subject matter expertise while handling sophisticated litigation involving complex financial issues, high-conflict custody disputes, family law appeals, Hague Convention matters, guardianships, adoptions, and other challenging cases. As part of our continued growth, we are expanding into Maine and are seeking an experienced attorney to help establish our presence in the state. Our founder and Managing Partner, Damian Turco, previously served as President of both the Massachusetts Bar Association and the New England Bar Association, reflecting our longstanding commitment to leadership within the legal profession. Unlike many firms entering a new market, you'll have the backing of an established regional organization with approximately 20 attorneys, experienced administrative professionals, sophisticated marketing, proven technology, centralized billing and accounting, recruiting support, human resources, information technology, and an experienced leadership team. We've invested heavily in technology, centralized operations, marketing, recruiting, billing, and administrative support so our attorneys can spend more time practicing law and less time running a business. Rather than building a law firm from scratch, you'll have the opportunity to help build a new office while benefiting from the resources and infrastructure of an established, successful practice. Our centralized marketing team actively generates new client inquiries and supports the continued growth of each office, allowing our attorneys to focus on practicing law rather than business development alone. Our attorneys are supported by highly experienced paralegals and legal assistants who collaborate across offices to ensure clients receive exceptional representation. We invest heavily in technology, professional development, and operational excellence because we believe outstanding client service begins with outstanding people. We are equally committed to improving access to justice. Through our Justice for All Program, we provide reduced-fee legal services to qualifying individuals who otherwise could not afford experienced family law representation. We are also proud to donate 10% of our firm's profits to Lawyers for Civil Rights, reflecting our commitment to protecting civil rights and strengthening the rule of law. Whether serving our clients, mentoring future attorneys, or expanding throughout New England, our goal remains the same: to build one of the nation's premier family law firms while creating an exceptional place for talented legal professionals to build meaningful, long-term careers. *Interested?* Interested candidates should submit a résumé through Indeed. We welcome confidential conversations with experienced Maine family law attorneys who would like to learn more about helping establish Turco Legal's presence in Maine. If you're an experienced Maine family law attorney who wants to help build something exceptional while enjoying the support, resources, and stability of one of New England's premier family law firms, we'd welcome the opportunity to speak with you.
