High School Guidance Counselor

School District of Neillsville

Description

The Role

As our High School Guidance Counselor, you will wear many hats. You will guide students through the multi-faceted landscape of young adulthood-balancing academic scheduling, personal/social development, and post-secondary planning (whether that's a four-year university, technical college, trade apprenticeship, military enlistment, or entering the local workforce).

Key Responsibilities

  • Post-Secondary & Career Pathways: Guide students through college applications, FAFSA/financial aid, trade program opportunities, youth apprenticeships, and local workforce connections.
  • Academic Advising: Oversee class scheduling, graduation tracking, transcript audits, and early college credit programs (Start College Now, Early College Credit Program).
  • Social-Emotional Support: Provide short-term individual counseling, crisis intervention, and group support to help students navigate personal challenges, mental health, and social dynamics.
  • Standardized Testing Coordination: Assist with the administration of ACT, PreACT, and state-mandated testing.
  • Community & Family Outreach: Serve as a bridge between the school, families, and regional mental health/community agencies. Coordinate annual local scholarship programs with regional donors.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: Master's Degree in School Counseling from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure: Valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) School Counselor License (License #7054) or immediate eligibility for Wisconsin licensure.
  • Skills: Excellent active listening skills, strong organization, empathy, and comfort operating in a tight-knit community setting.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Wisconsin Academic and Career Planning (ACP) frameworks, Xello, and regional technical college systems (e.g., CVTC, NTC, or MSTC).

Please attach a cover letter and at least one letter of recommendation to your application.
