IT Systems Specialist

We’re working with a community-minded financial organization in the Liberty, NY area that’s looking to add an IT Systems Specialist  to its team. If you enjoy working with technology, solving problems, and getting involved in projects that keep an organization running, this could be a good next step. You'll work alongside an experienced IT team, helping maintain the bank's technology environment, troubleshoot issues, and roll out new services and applications. The position offers a mix of systems administration, technical support, and project work, with opportunities to develop your skills across a variety of technologies.

This is an opportunity to work on more than end-user support. You'll be involved in the systems and infrastructure that keep a financial institution running, while working with an experienced IT team that shares knowledge and supports one another.

The position offers exposure to a variety of technology projects and systems, with room to continue developing your technical skills. The organization is open to someone who has a good foundation in IT and is ready to take the next step in their career, rather than someone who has already done everything.

Responsibilities and Expectations

• Maintain Windows server environments, virtual servers, and core technology infrastructure.
• Administer Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Group Policy, and user permissions.
• Monitor system performance, perform maintenance and upgrades, and help keep technology services running reliably.
• Manage and monitor backups, support disaster recovery processes, and participate in business continuity testing.
• Support endpoint security, cybersecurity alerts, vulnerability remediation, and multifactor authentication.
• Troubleshoot software issues and work with vendors to resolve more complex application or system problems.
• Assist with the implementation of new technology, applications, and services across the organization.
• Participate in technology projects, including ongoing evaluation of the organization's virtualization environment.
• Provide technical guidance to support staff and work collaboratively with the rest of the IT team.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of IT experience, preferably with a background in infrastructure or systems administration.
• Experience working with Windows environments, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
• Familiarity with networking, virtualization, endpoint security, and backup technologies.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work through technical issues independently while knowing when to involve others.
• A bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.
• Banking or financial institution experience is a plus, but it is not required. Candidates from other industries with a solid IT background are encouraged to apply.

Compensation & Benefits

As required by local law, Highland Consulting Group believes a salary range of $50,000–$55,000 reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position. The individual may also be eligible for a discretionary bonus.
