Health Care Technician II (S)
The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws.
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Health Care Technician II to join our team. This role provides advanced nursing care to offenders under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Nurse Supervisor. This role includes assisting with patient assessments, monitoring vital signs, administering routine medications, collecting specimens, and performing basic treatments such as wound care and dressing changes. The NAII also provides personal care, supports emergency response, and ensures compliance with safety and security protocols within the correctional environment. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a secure setting are essential.
Salary Range: $32,444 - $48,665
Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
- Assists with patient assessments by collecting clinical information and reporting findings to nursing staff.
- Monitors and documents vital signs in accordance with established medical protocols.
- Administers routine medications and performs basic treatments such as wound care and dressing changes.
- Supports emergency response efforts and ensures adherence to safety and security protocols within the correctional environment.
Requirements:
- Must complete the Department of Adult Correction's Medication Technician course and competency evaluation upon hire
- Listing a Nurse Aide II by the Division of Health Service Regulation or certification as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Advanced Emergency Technician (EMT) or completion of an equivalent credential or program.
