Treks & Trails Lead Teacher

The Treks & Trails Lead Teacher is responsible for providing a quality, safe and developmentally appropriate educational and recreational program to children aged 3 – 5 years old in accordance with the City of Chaska. This position is scheduled to work Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, approximately 15–20 hours per week. Creates, implements and modifies developmentally appropriate, quality preschool curriculum for children aged 3-5 years old, ensuring activities meet their physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs. May handle difficult and challenging situations and provides guidance and coaching to less experienced Lead Teachers and Assistant Teachers as needed. Teaches basic skills such as color, shape, number and letter recognition, social interaction and personal hygiene. Contributes to the development of activities to support basic skills described previously. Ensures children are supervised at all times and determines appropriate response to participant behavior, and the safety and well‑being of children and staff. Leads class projects, field trips, guest visits, and other experiential activities. Guides students to ensure active participation and meaningful experiences. Ensures responsive, proactive communication with parents/guardians, regarding participant’s development, behavioral issues, program expectations and weekly/monthly activities. Maintains an engaging interactive classroom that is clean, safe, organized and well‑maintained and reports classroom needs to the Youth Supervisor. Observes children during activities, takes note of progress and ensures all children are integrated into the classroom in a positive and respectful manner. Adheres to all preschool program policies and procedures, laws and regulations as applicable. Adheres to Rule 3 Department of Human Services License guidelines. Performs physical, cognitive and social/emotional development assessments on students. Offers conferences to parents/guardians twice a year and as needed for each child. Performs all other related duties as requested or assigned.
